Please note this is an in home position within Westborough MA that is funded by DDS.
Support an intelligent young adult with mild autism in developing household skills. This role involves preparing simple meals assisting with medication management problem solving sensory differences and building foundational skills needed for daily living (e.g. kitchen cleanup laundry organizing personal belongings). The young adult has other medical challenges that impact their energy level and ability to engage in services. Therefore at times this role will involve some basic housekeeping and cooking while the client has down time. This position is ideal for someone with a flexible schedule such as a college or graduate student looking to apply their knowledge and compassion in a supportive role.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare daily meals including making pasta and chopping fruits and vegetables.
- Organize and manage the individuals daily medications including refilling as needed.
- Build rapport positive communication and shared engagement with the young adult.
- Gradually encourage and assist the individual in engaging in household tasks promoting skill development independence and confidence.
- Occasionally drive to pick up groceries medications or other household essentials.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Flexible Patient Respectful and Calm
- Ability to read the room and accommodate sensory differences
- Self-motivated reliable and able to maintain a supportive atmosphere while fostering independence.
- Able to simplify tasks and teach step-by-step with a slow and steady approach that allows the individual to feel comfortable and confident.
- Detail-oriented especially in handling tasks like medication management.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- At least 1-2 years experience with working with autistic individuals
- Cooking and cleaning knowledge
- Understanding of sensory-friendly environments
- Interest in creative and STEM pursuits such as art crafts Dungeons & Dragons science or technology (optional)
- Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle for occasional transportation needs

- Monday 12pm-3pm
- Thursday 1pm-4pm
