Your role

This posting is intended to fill a Researcher/Reporter position within the ICI Estrie team. The role is assigned to medium- and long-term production.

In this role you will report to the Senior Manager Journalism and will primarily serve as a Researcher/Reporter contributing in particular to investigative journalism projects and preparing coverage plans and rollouts scheduled throughout the year across our various platforms as well as interview plans. You must be able to gather large volumes of information on a wide range of topics and synthesize it to produce well-developed research files. You will also be required to monitor court proceedings and maintain a network of contacts with lawyers. You will be responsible for handling access to information requests for the station. The position requires a high level of adaptability the ability to work under pressure and the capacity to maintain an extensive network of contacts.

The schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. but may vary depending on production needs. This position is a replacement for approximately one (1) year.

You must have a strong knowledge of the Estrie region and its key stakeholders and demonstrate creativity initiative and rigor. As a Researcher/Reporter you must be able to work on multiple files simultaneously and have strong organizational skills. You must also comply with CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.

A valid drivers licence is required.

Your profile:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in journalism or in another relevant field

  • Three (3) years of experience in the journalism field

Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of current events in the Estrie region

  • Broad general knowledge

  • Very good knowledge of research techniques and tools

  • A strong and up-to-date network of sources

  • On-air ease particularly in radio

  • Ability to work as part of a team while demonstrating autonomy and resourcefulness

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Knowledge of the Corporations Journalistic Standards and Practices

  • Excellent command of French both spoken and written

  • Intermediate oral and reading skills in English and beginner-level writing skills (asset)

  • Availability to work non-standard hours
