Were looking for a highly skilled Senior Health and Safety Officer to take the lead on health and safety for some of our more complex and higher-risk services including Highways Fleet Accessible Transport Service and Waste.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of strategic operations influencing safety standards and shaping best practice across the county. Youll also act as the health and safety designated point of contact for Procurement and other services on corporate contracts for COSHH and PPE ensuring compliance and safeguarding our workforce.

What Youll Do;

  • Provide expert health and safety advice across higher-risk services.
  • Represent the health and safety team at meetings and prepare reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits on key Highways projects to ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Oversee temporary H&S resources allocated to support projects.
  • Maintain elements of the safety management systems for higher-risk services and carry out internal audits.
  • Develop and deliver bespoke health and safety training to higher-risk services as required.
  • Work autonomously managing priorities and contributing to long-term planning.

What Were Looking For;

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and IRCA auditing certification.
  • Extensive experience applying health and safety legislation (in particular CDM COSHH PPE) across diverse services including schools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to challenge practices and drive improvement.
