Title: Inspector Permits & Utilities

Compensation: $25.27 - $30.51 per hour
Description
The City of Fishers Engineering Department is seeking an Inspector - Permits & Utilities who thrives in a fast paced high-pressure environment and finds satisfaction in ensuring the high standards of the community in which they work are achieved. This position is responsible for performing ROW permit inspection of work within the city Rights of Way. Other responsibilities include overseeing proper permit adherence reporting issuing citations and issuing notices of violations for ROW and utility activity that does not comply with ordinances.
Examples of Duties
- Perform ROW/utility permit inspections as it pertains to city roads sewer trail and other infrastructure.
- Identify and coordinate utility conflicts of ROW/utility activities with adjacent public or private development.
- Communicate and schedule inspections with permittee and verify that work adheres to City of Fishers engineering design standards.
- Utilize permitting software to review schedule and track inspection workflow.
- Verify ADA compliance of walkways.
- Verify proper restoration of disturbed project limits.
- Coordinate and communicate ROW/utility activity with engineering and other city departments.
- Conduct preconstruction meeting for utility builds in neighborhoods.
- Identify and report safety hazards due to contractor/utility activities and ensuring steps to resolve conflict.
- Respond to citizen complaints or concerns to resolve the various problems related to ROW/utility activity.
- Follow laws codes regulations and ordinances as they relate to city county state and federal government.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required but Associates/Technical degree preferred;
- Valid drivers license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle required;
- Ability to handle a variety of assignments and problems independently;
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people in sometimes stressful situations;
- Working knowledge of laws codes regulations and ordinances as they relate to city county state and federal government;
- Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions required;
- Must be able to work some overtime including nights and weekends due to business needs.
