Join our dynamic Waste Services team as an Environmental Engineer and play a critical role in the Citys commitment to sustainability and compliance. Reporting to the Senior Engineer the primary focus of this position is to assist in the management of environmental facilities including the Clover Bar landfills and issues at the Edmonton Waste Management Center (EWMC) and other Waste Services locations.
You will be instrumental in providing essential environmental engineering services across all Waste Services operations managing critical infrastructure like the landfill gas collection and leachate transfer systems and offering technical expertise for groundwater surface water and air quality across the EWMC and eco-stations.
This role requires a candidate with a foundational understanding of best practices who can navigate complex regulatory requirements manage compliance issues and interpret technical concepts for non-technical staff. Working alongside a team of specialists you will contribute to strategic policy decisionsincluding the Citys GHG Management programsand drive efficiency as Waste Services continuously evolves and adopts new technologies. - Environmental Civil or Chemical Engineering
- Must be a Professional Engineer (.) with APEGA in good standing. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment
- Minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in a technical role within a large complex unionized organization
- Experience to include civil design work and contract management
- Knowledge and experience in the waste management field and in the municipal infrastructure field including environmental and safety regulations and ISO 14001 standards
Assets:
- Certifications coursework or training in waste management and waste management technologies
Skills required for success:
- Analytical and Leadership Skills: Ability to analyze complex technical information make timely decisions supervise employees and manage HR aspects like recruitment and performance
- Project and Resource Management: Proven skills in planning organization project delivery and managing personnel external consultants and contractors
- Communication and Collaboration: Proficient verbal written and presentation skills for effective interaction building solid relationships and facilitating groups with competing interests
- Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( a culture of equity diversity reconciliation and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:
- Up to: 1 permanent full-time position
- Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week Monday - Friday
- Salary Range: $94869 - $118585 (Annually)
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
- This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent)
- The role may necessitate the use of personal transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
