Engineering Lead, Pay with Wise

The Pay with Wise team is a new team being formed which you will have the chance to help build it from scratch. It is dedicated to making Pay with Wise the most cheap and convenient payment method for anyone paying with any currency anywhere. You will be working in helping expose Pay with Wise as a payment method in our APIs so businesses can receive payments via it all around the world. You also will be helping make Pay with Wise the most seamless experience both for new customers and existing ones with things like simple sign up and logging automatic top up with connected accounts etc. Our goal is to make  paying internationally as cheap and convenient as possible.

And we need an Engineering Lead to join our mission and help us build new ways of getting paid as well as improving the existing ones. As the Engineering Lead you will first work in bootstrapping the team by helping us enable Pay with Wise via our API and then  you will work closely with product to set up the team direction will work with engineers to set up the team vision and will mentor and grow engineers with the goal of building a high performance team able to make Pay with Wise the best payment method in the industry.

The Pay with Wise team is part of the Global Product tribe dedicated to enabling customers to receive money seamlessly and efficiently into their Wise accounts. We build innovative payment products that serve both businesses and consumers creating convenient and reliable ways to get paid internationally.

What will you be working on

• Enabling Pay with Wise via our APIs

• Improving the sign up experience for customers signing up just to Pay with Wise

• Allowing automatic top up via connected accounts so customers can Pay with Wise even if their balance is low

• Experience leading teams and expand products in order to navigate to ongoing expansion.

• A strong product mindset and passion for user experience you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points

• Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences

• Leading and inspiring your team of engineers to build the prioritise building right things in the right way 

• Ability to deliver work across multiple teams coordinating your efforts across the organisation.. Your work will frequently involve cross-team collaboration.

• Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value

• Experience in developing web applications and distributed systems in a production environment

• Experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean code that is performant and well tested 

• Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement

• Following and advocating best coding practices continuous delivery and code reviews

• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases query optimisation and designing schemas is a plus

• Knowledge of Java and Spring boot and experience with a messaging system like Kafka is a plus

• Being part of the on-call rotation for our critical services and helping the team improve it normally being on-call every 6-10 weeks.
