Steeles is an asset-based business which utilizes a fleet of dedicated equipment which includes company-owned assets and owner-operator-owned equipment working as subcontractors along with carrier partners to provide safe timely and competitive freight services throughout Alberta. Job Summary
The Lead Dispatcher operates under the direction of the Manager Customer Service & Dispatch and is responsible for executing daily dispatch operations within established service and profitability parameters.
The Dispatcher Team Lead is responsible for managing and coordinating the daily dispatch operations while actively participating in the dispatching tasks. This role ensures efficient and timely dispatch of drivers optimal routing and coordination with customers and team members to maintain high service levels. The Lead Dispatcher provides guidance and support to the dispatch and customer service team handling escalations and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency.
This role is critical for maintaining efficient dispatch operations and ensuring customer satisfaction in a competitive logistics environment. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset a strong focus on process improvement and the ability to lead a high-performing dispatch and customer service team while actively participating in day-to-day dispatching activities.
Job Responsibilities
Dispatch Operations
Proper Planning (loading) and scheduling that are efficient and profitable.
Manage and participate in the daily dispatching activities including scheduling and routing drivers for pickups and deliveries.
Monitor and manage real-time dispatch activities to address issues promptly.
Ensure compliance with company policies industry regulations and safety standards.
Leadership
Escalate customer-impacting issues staffing constraints and profitability risks to the Manager Customer Service & Dispatch.
Provide guidance support and training to dispatchers and customer service to ensure smooth operations.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Assist in developing training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the dispatch team.

Optimize routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce transit times and improve on-time performance.
Coordinate with drivers to manage schedules.
Coordination
Serve as a point of contact for escalated customer issues and complex inquiries.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem resolution.
Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to address customer needs and preferences.
Management and Reporting
Monitor dispatch metrics and KPIs to evaluate performance.
Prepare regular reports on dispatch operations identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Utilize dispatch software and technology to enhance operational efficiency.
Improvement
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in dispatch technology.
Lead initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.

Ensure all dispatch activities comply with DOT regulations and company policies.
Promote a culture of safety and adherence to safety protocols among the dispatch team and drivers.
Address and resolve any compliance or safety-related issues promptly.
and Experience Requirements
- Education: Bachelors degree in logistics supply chain commerce or business administration
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in dispatch operations preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is a plus.

- Certifications and Licenses in industry-related qualifications support advancement.
- Current Forklift operators license TDG Certification and a valid drivers license. Class 5 minimum Class 1 preferred.
