Experience and Skills Required-
The Nevada Secretary of States Office is seeking a Solution Architect to join the Orion Program supporting several Project Initiatives to streamline/modernize/improve the customer and internal user experience for the States Online Business Licensing Management services. The Solution Architect proactively and holistically leads and supports Enterprise Architect activities that will guide our development and management of our portfolio of solutions. Solutions include projects systems (including applications technologies processes and information) shared infrastructure services and shared application services. This role will develop tools to help with API integrations with the new licensing solution as well as other helpful automation. This role will also assist with data cleansing data migration and report creation for the business
They understand the concepts of business goals objectives and business outcomes business capabilities value-streams and business processes and their importance in solution architecture. The Solution Architect provides the necessary leadership analysis and design tasks related to support the development of technology solutions to ensure that our Orion Portfolio solutions meet business needs and align with architectural principles and governance and standards here at the Secretary of States Office. They create deliverables for managing the organizations portfolio of to be and as is solutions - including systems (applications processes information and technology) shared infrastructure services and shared application services and components to enable and drive targeted business outcomes.
The Solutions Architect will demonstrate competencies across four key dimensions:
Interpret Business Needs
- Translates business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives and documents all solution architecture design and analysis work.
- Works closely with the Orion Portfolio LeadershipProject teams and IT Enterprise Architecure committee to ensure a robust architectural runway that can support future business requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Understands business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state) and determines corresponding enterprise solution designs and change requirements to drive the organizations targeted business outcomes.
- Provide input and guidance on individual and team weekly goals monitor progress through a positive collaborative and encouraging work environment.
- Example of potential deliverables provided while performing this role: requirements traceability document business process/capability impact assessment and business process diagrams.
Assess Technology
- Assess the current state of implemented services and solutions and identify any deficiencies like the aging of the technologies used by the application or misalignment with business requirements.
- Supports product managers in end-of-life product decisions to maintain refresh or retire services or systems including applications technologies processes and information.
- Understands emerging technology trends and disruptions and their practical application to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
- Analyzes the technology industry competitors and market trends and determines their potential implications for a given solution.
- Analyzes the business-IT environment to detect critical deficiencies legacy and technical debt and recommends solutions for improvement within our Orion Portfolio.
- Facilitates the evaluation and selection of software product standards and services as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations.
- Consults with application and infrastructure development projects and products to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify designs to accommodate the solutions architecture.
- Examples of potential deliverables provided while performing this role: Current state architecture documentation vendor assessment for RFP contribution to cost/benefit analysis contributions to proof-of-concept implementation.
Apply Technology
- Leads evaluation design and analysis for the implementation of a solutions architecture within our Secretary of States Business License Management services or technologies based on enterprise business strategy business capabilities value-streams business requirements and enterprise standards.
- Manages and develops the architecture for a broader scope of projects or products working closely with application and system architects that manage and design architecture within our Business License Management services or other State agencies that interface with the Business Licensing services.
- Develops a roadmap for the evolution of the enterprise solution portfolio from current to future state as defined by the requirements of our Orion Portfolio effort.
- Acts as a consultant on a broad range of technologies platforms and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes.
- Creates architectural designs to guide and contextualize solution development across products services projects and systems including applications technologies processes and information.
- Works closely with the Orion Portfolio leadership team to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised throughout the Orion program effort.
- Provides consulting support to application architects within Secretary of States IT teams to ensure the program is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture for the Secretary of States IT operation.

Provide Enterprise Guidance
- Provides deliverables like standard definitions reference models and architecture designs to support architectural governance to assess the impact of new and ongoing technology investment on the business and the Secretary of States IT environment.
- Supports a Community of Practice (CoP) guiding and helping Orion Program and Project teams to align with the overall enterprise architecture governance and assurance.
- Designs and directs the governance activities associated with ensuring solutions architecture assurance and compliance.
- Defines the principles guidelines standards and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprises future-state architecture vision.
- Examples of potential deliverables provided while performing this role: solution scorecard and enterprise reference architecture components.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in computer science information-technology engineering system analysis or a related study or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated Solution Architecture experience and verifiable business outcomes achieved for organizations where you have performed this role in your career.
- 3-5 years of Solution Architecture experience.
- Communicates clearly in English both verbally and in writing with project team members and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to plan organize and deliver requested deliverables on time.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrated can-do attitude.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities. Moves quickly to address unexpected problems or opportunities.
- Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint MS Teams and Visio experience is a plus but not required.
