Protect public health on a broad scale as a Sanitarian 4 / Program Specialist where your expertise directly safeguards consumers across this high-impact role youll oversee inspections plan and label reviews and regulatory compliance for food and drug operations commercial body art and tanning facilities and water vending units within your assigned parishes. Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following:

Three years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus two years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

Manage and oversee Food and Drug Program activities within assigned regions including inspecting food drug and cosmetic manufacturers wholesale distributors UV tanning facilities and Commercial Body Art facilities to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices Good Warehousing Practices and applicable state regulations.

Conduct complaint investigations and routine inspections to identify violations assess public health risks and ensure compliance with Louisiana Sanitary Code and LAC Title 51 requirements.

Perform Milk and Dairy Program inspections by evaluating dairy farms plants producer-processor operations bulk haulers and retail distribution vehicles; collect surveillance and follow-up samples; and carry out enforcement actions in accordance with the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance.

Serve as an inspector and audit-level participant under the Federal Inspection Program by conducting inspections of food manufacturers distributors and commercial seafood establishments in compliance with U.S. FDA contract requirements.

Review and approve facility plans and product labels for new or existing Food and Drug and Milk and Dairy establishments to ensure compliance with construction operational training and labeling regulations including the Food Drug and Cosmetic Law and Nutrition Labeling and Education Act.

Execute enforcement emergency response and recall activities by drafting compliance actions seizing and overseeing destruction of noncompliant products collecting samples for laboratory analysis investigating consumer complaints and participating in disaster response efforts as assigned.
