Shift & Schedule

  • Shift: Day Shift

  • Hours: 312-hour shifts

  • Time: 6:00 AM 6:30 PM

    • 11.5 paid hours with a 30-minute lunch

  • Rotating Shifts: None

  • Weekends: Not required

  • Call: Not required

  • Floating: Required to Cath Prep & Recovery

Orientation

  • One (1) shift

  • 11.512 hours

Unit Overview

This is a mixed procedural unit supporting:

  • Cardiac Catheterization

  • Electrophysiology (EP)

  • Interventional Radiology (IR)

The unit utilizes a shared prep and recovery area.

Unit Statistics

  • Average Daily Census: 7

  • Average Visits per Day: 7

  • Procedure Rooms: 2

  • Recovery Beds: 12

Patient Population & Ratios

  • Population: Adult patients

  • Day Shift Ratio: 1:4

  • Primary Diagnoses: Arrhythmias

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Pre- and post-procedure patient care

  • Circulating during procedures

  • Sheath removal and post-procedure monitoring

  • Monitoring and administration of procedural sedation

  • Dysrhythmia recognition and management

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Required Clinical Skills

Medication Competencies

  • Antiarrhythmics

  • Antihypertensives

  • Emergency medications

  • IV vasopressors

  • Procedural sedation (administration & monitoring)

  • Reversal agents

  • Thrombolytics

IV & Vascular Skills

  • Blood product administration

  • IV infusion pumps

  • Starting and maintaining IVs

  • PICC line care and maintenance

  • Implanted port care and maintenance

  • Vascular closure devices (Perclose StarClose)

  • Topical hemostasis (D-Stat Chito-Seal Syvek Patch)

Monitoring & Assessment

  • ACT monitoring

  • Cardioversion

  • End-tidal CO₂ monitoring

  • 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition

  • RASS (Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale)

  • Pressure injury prevention

  • Infection prevention & isolation precautions

Unit Systems & Tools

  • Medication Dispensing: Omnicell

  • Documentation: EPIC (required experience)

  • Communication: SBAR

Provider & Support Services

  • Pharmacy services

  • Interpretation services

  • Rapid Response Team

  • NP or PA coverage (not in-house 24/7)

  • Cardiologist coverage (not in-house 24/7)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years RN experience

  • Prior experience with 1:4 patient ratios

  • EPIC documentation experience required

  • EP Lab Cath Lab or procedural unit experience required

  • Charge nurse experience preferred

  • Teaching hospital experience preferred

  • Community hospital experience preferred

  • First-time travelers accepted

Scrubs

  • Provided by the facility
