Job Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the lieutenant ensures the central bus terminal operation meets daily objectives completely and follows agency policies and procedures.
- Provides direction and instruction to inmates and/or correctional officers in a program of discipline safety security and rehabilitation of inmates.
- Provides proper instruction on use of keys firearms chemical munitions and restraining equipment when necessary.
- Instructs and counsels inmates as required.
- Monitors inmates movement within the confines of the central bus terminal.
- Provides safe transport of inmates in all custody levels on PCR medical transfers parole and extradition routes (male and female)/ safekeepers (SK) and special management unit (SMU) inmates are also transported.
- Uses good supervisory judgement and decisions when transporting inmates.
- Must attain CDL in six (6) months.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelors degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional security military or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
