The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties: The Energy & Infrastructure Intern will learn about the Departments efforts to capture future economic opportunities by ensuring access to affordable reliable diverse and increasingly carbon-free energy resources through research project development and participation in ongoing activities and workstreams in the office.
Major Task to be Performed: Research that informs ongoing Office workstreams contributes to Assistant Secretarys responsibilities with respect to the Governors Energy Policy Task Force and other commitments attends/participates in meetings presents findings and deliverables to colleagues both within and outside Commerce across the Executive Administration.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: Acquire a comprehensive understanding of Commerces role in collaborating with communities businesses and policymakers on the energy transition while maximizing economic benefits from an all-of-the-above energy strategy.
Academic Majors Desired: Public policy political science environmental science environmental policy sustainability environmental engineering economics and data science.
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency with MS Office programs ability to multi-task manage time and problem solve comfortable working independently and on a team a curious learner and demonstrates initiative.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
