Job Goal(s):
The Speech & Language Pathologist provides direct services and consultative support to ensure the timely appropriate and effective delivery of special education services for students enrolled in center-based programs from kindergarten through age 26. The position also provides consultation to special education staff regarding the development implementation and monitoring of targeted communication interventions for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Masters degree in speech and language pathology required
Certification:
Michigan Speech and Language Pathologist License required
Work Experience:
Previous experience in evaluating the language development ofschoolage children developing individualized education plansand providing direct and consultative services.
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Working knowledge of evidence-based practices for speech and language intervention including Core Vocabulary boards and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and devices
Working knowledge of assessment measures used with center-based programming populations
Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Michigan Rules and Regulations governing special education services
Essential Job Functions:
Provide direct and consultative speech and language services to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) placed at BGLC in accordance with each students IEP.
Actively participate on the BGLC Screening Team and Child Study Team to support staff and students and to assist in the development of appropriate educational programming.
Collaborate effectively with teachers support staff and ancillary service providers to support students demonstrating a need for targeted interventions.
Participate in and coordinate student transitions with relevant providers across a variety of educational settings and situations.
Serve as an IEP team member and chair IEP meetings as assigned.
Lead and/or participate in multidisciplinary special education evaluation teams.
Communicate consult and collaborate effectively with parents staff agencies and other stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
Maintain current knowledge of best practices research and trends related to the scope of practice for speech-language pathology.
Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies processes and procedures.
Complete assigned responsibilities within established or agreed-upon timelines.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
- Valid drivers license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
