The City of Turlock is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Cadet. Under immediate supervision performs assignments restricted to non-enforcement police-related functions assists police officers in non-hazardous duties performs communications duties processes prisoners and performs related clerical duties.
This classification is Unrepresented for labor relations purposes and is subject to overtime assignments.
An eligibility list will be established from this recruitment that will be valid for six (6) months.

Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age on or before administration of the first step of the examination process.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States or permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship prior to appointment to Police Cadet.
Training:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Currently enrolled in an accredited college. Must be taking a minimum of six (6) units in good standing and maintain a 2.0 GPA or better (documentation from the college is required).
Licenses:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver license.
Other certifications required by the State of California or deemed necessary by the Police Chief.
Must successfully complete an extensive background investigation and medical examination prior to appointment.

Physical Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to sun and heat or wet and/or humid conditions as well as toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office or moderately loud when in the field.
Police Cadets are required to attend college taking a minimum of six (6) units at the same time they are working at the Turlock Police Department. Scheduled work hours will not conflict with class schedules. Workdays and hours will be assigned so the Cadet has adequate time to devote to his or her education.
Willingness and ability to work holidays weekends and shifts; provide scheduled and emergency overtime; be available for call back as required; wear a uniform and comply with department grooming standards.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to move to and from various locations sit and communicate effectively in order to perform essential duties of this position. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
VETERANS PREFERENCE SYSTEM
The City of Turlock has adopted a veterans preference system (effective January 1 2002). The percentage score achieved through an entrance (non-promotional) examination which ranks applicants on an eligibility list shall be adjusted to provide: (a) one (1) percentage point added to the final test score for each six (6) months of active service during a time of armed conflict up to a maximum of five (5) points and (b) five (5) percentage points added to the final test score for veterans who are disabled as a result of active military service during a time of armed conflict regardless of length of service. To receive preference points applicants must provide supporting documentation and proof of honorable no event shall an applicant receive more than a five (5) point adjustment. This request should be made in section #12 of the employment application form.A copy of your DD214 must be attached for this request to be considered.

Employees are evaluated on the quality of customer service they provide.Sick Leave: The City of Turlock adopted a Paid Sick Leave Policy on June 23 2015 which applies to all part-time temporary and seasonal employees as of July 1 2015. One (1) hour per every 30 hours worked paid at the employees regular wage rate (capped at forty-eight (48) hours or six (6) days).
Hourly Rateof Pay Range: $18.44 - $20.48 per hour
Hoursof Work:Hours and days may vary. This position shall not exceed twenty (20) hours per week or 960 hours per fiscal year.
