The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties:
Under close supervision the Lab Assistant Intern will support experienced staff by performinganalytical and support tasks. This hands-on role offers practical experience skill development and exposure toroutine operations and special projects in a collaborative quality-focused environment.
Major Task to be Performed:
Process water samples for pesticide and SVOC analysis using LLE SPE and related technique.
Responsibilities include:
Timely sample extraction within holding times
Accurate execution of procedures to ensure precision and acceptable analyte recovery
Preparation of reagents and standards
Adherence to lab safety SOPs and QA/QC protocols
Documentation of procedures and administrative tasks
Support for CHO during lab safety inspections including recording and reporting finding
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: Demonstrate Proficiency in Pesticides extraction by SPE and SVOC by LLE.
Conduct research on SPE efficiency for pesticide analytes and surrogates in water samples documenting and
evaluating results.
Develop a strong foundation in chemical hygiene hazard identification and risk assessment
Academic Majors Desired: Academic Majors desired (Please be thorough and include any majors you would consider hiring): Must be currently enrolled at
an accredited college or university pursuing an associate or bachelors degree in chemistry biology environmental science or a
related field. Completion of college-level chemistry and lab coursework is required.
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
Basic understanding of laboratory safety protocols and procedures
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Organizational skills and time management
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced laboratory setting
Report writing techniques and intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Suite required.
Familiarity with analytical instrumentation such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and
liquid chromatography (LC).
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
