Shelter House was founded in 1981 as a grassroots response to homelessness in Fairfax County and has grown into a respected nonprofit serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness and domestic violence. Our team works with government agencies community organizations and private partners to deliver services rooted in dignity safety and long term stability. Each year Shelter House supports nearly 2000 individuals including many children and families. About the Role
You will oversee the daily residential operations at Artemis House Region I and directly supervise residential staff (full time part time and on call). This role combines administrative leadership and hands on service delivery. You will work closely with the Director of Artemis House Region I and Assistant Director of Programs to ensure safe trauma informed and compliant services. This position includes rotating on call duties and occasional evening work.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Supervision and Scheduling
Hire train develop schedule and supervise residential staff
Provide coaching and support through regular one on one meetings
Prepare and distribute monthly residential schedules
Review and approve timesheets and leave requests
Operations and Facility Management
Lead residential operations for Region I
Coordinate staffing during safety or weather related emergencies
Track and manage maintenance requests and repairs
Coordinate unit inspections and inventory management
Ensure proper vehicle maintenance and registration
Schedule cleaning of all sites and coordinate turnover after move outs
Compliance and Documentation
Review documentation to ensure compliance with agency standards
Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures and safety protocols
Ensure facility compliance with health safety and agency policies
Oversee operations budget check requests and financial tracking
Direct Service and Collaboration
Provide direct services as needed during scheduled shifts
Support clients and staff with safety plans and needs assessments
Collaborate with case management and leadership for consistent service delivery
Address client residential concerns with program leadership
Assist with securing donations and volunteer support
Leadership and Values
Participate in and facilitate staff meetings and trainings
Serve in a rotating on call capacity to support crisis response
Model and uphold Shelter Houses iCARE values
Perform other duties to support the program and organization
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in human services or related field or equivalent experience
Minimum three years experience in human services or direct service roles
Strong organizational time management and decision making skills
Ability to handle competing priorities in a fast paced environment
Strong oral communication and public speaking skills
Willingness to work evenings and participate in on call rotation
Valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with homeless families or survivors of domestic or sexual violence
Experience supervising staff in a residential setting
Proficiency in a second language
Physical Requirements
Annual TB test required
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Ability to lift items weighing 1020 pounds
