Canvas Inc. is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical engineering services to effectively assist in the implementation of the research mission of the Air Force Research Laboratories Aerospace Systems Directorate Aerospace Sciences Division Aero Validation Branch (AFRL/RQVX) plans manages and conducts experimental activities to validate advanced aero designs and simulations to improve aerospace vehicle performance. AFRL/RQVX primarily provides wind tunnel experiments to satisfy the requirements of Aerospace Sciences Division researchers but also provides experiments to customers from other portions of AFRL the Air Force DoD and industry..

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain drawings of mechanical systems and subsystems used in the operation of the wind tunnel facilities; this includes updating drawings to reflect the current state and version control.

• Where practical the Contractor shall create drawings where such drawings do not exist.

• Supervise the installation of mechanical equipment components or systems and Execute all tasks in conformance with applicable codes.

• Measure and monitor the results of wind tunnel flow field characterizations (e.g. flow quality and turbulence levels) for deviations from design targets historical capabilities and future capability requirements. Shall advise the Government regarding resolution of problems or achievement of desired flow field quality. Such advice shall be consistent with the methods design principles and design features of the various AFRL/RQVX wind tunnel facilities.

• Monitor aeronautical research trends so as to advise the Government on anticipated capabilities requirements. Shall advise on appropriate approaches to meeting such future requirements. These capability requirements may include: test article installation methods; test condition throughput; test condition control; secondary air availability routing and control; and wind tunnel model design/fabrication methodologies.

• Work with teams of technicians other engineers project managers outside vendors etc. to oversee mechanical/structural repairs monitor troubleshoot upgrade etc. complex mechanical systems. Designing and implementing custom solutions as needed.

• Performs all functional duties independently with minimal supervision.

Specific Skills/Experience

• Must have up to 3-10 years of experience

• Must have BA/BS degree

• Must be U.S. citizen

• Familiar with CAD Software and other basic computer programs

Other Notes

• Travel is minimal but may be required to directly support remote test efforts; review other test programs; gather obtain or present technical data; present technical data and test results at Government-approved conferences or symposia; inspect partially completed procurement items monitor technical activities being conducted elsewhere in the company; or for training on new equipment or tasks needed by AFRL/RQVX during the period of the task order.

• Telework is possible but generally limited to an as needed basis

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain & maintain an active Secret clearance.
