Part Maker
First Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm
Compensation: $20.00/h - $24.00 *dependent on experience* Quarterly Bonus and Overtime eligibility
PURPOSE:
The Part Marker is responsible for accurately identifying and labeling castings with required serial numbers heat/lot numbers and other traceability information. This role uses a combination of computerized marking programs mechanical stamping/engraving equipment and occasional hand scribing to apply permanent and legible markings in accordance with customer specifications and internal procedures. The Part Marker also supports inspection-related tasks such as handling NDT samples verifying marking quality and performing or assisting with hardness testing to ensure compliance with aerospace standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Apply permanent identification markings (serial numbers heat/lot numbers part numbers and other required codes) to castings and aerospace parts per work instructions customer requirements and internal procedures.
- Operate computer programs and marking equipment (e.g. dot peen etch/engrave systems stamping tools or other marking methods) to produce consistent legible and compliant markings.
- Perform hand scribing when required ensuring markings meet readability and depth standards without damaging part surfaces.
- Maintain part traceability by verifying and recording correct part identity serial number assignments and marking documentation throughout the workflow.
- Assist with creation and updates to marking instructions/cards (marking card instructions) including placement orientation character size and method requirements.
- Properly handle and segregate NDT samples and welds ensuring correct identification separation and protection from damage or mix-ups.
- Visually inspect castings and components for defects marking issues or nonconformances and notify appropriate personnel when abnormalities are found.
- Perform or assist with hardness testing per procedure when required and ensure results are documented and traceable to the correct part.
- Properly care for and maintain marking tools and stamps ensuring equipment is clean serviceable and stored correctly to prevent wear or damage.
- Follow departmental procedures and safety requirements including proper PPE use and careful handling of aerospace components.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring marking issues suggesting process improvements and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Performs other related duties responsibilities or tasks of equal or lesser skill as assigned to support department operations.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read and follow work instructions marking specifications shop travelers and drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in serial number and traceability systems.
- Comfortable working with computer-based programs and operating shop equipment.
- Ability to perform visual inspections and recognize marking defects (incorrect characters poor depth/contrast misplacement etc.).
- Understanding of basic aerospace traceability requirements (lot/heat/serial control and segregation practices).
- Ability to use measuring/verification tools as needed (e.g. depth verification visual comparators etc.).
- Good communication skills and willingness to escalate discrepancies quickly.
- Ability to wear required PPE including eye protection hearing protection gloves and respirators when necessary.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to the Xray Supervisor
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year of manufacturing experience preferred; foundry or metals-processing experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend and apply ordinary arithmetic decimals and fractions in daily work tasks.
