This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
Schedule HERO and PREA training for all newly hired DAC providers. Develop implement and facilitate EHR training programs tailored for physicians nurse practitioners physician assistants and other licensed providers. Conduct live
virtual and on-demand training sessions covering HERO navigation order entry documentation decision support tools prescribing medications ordering tests and specialty-specific as well as Telemedicine workflows. Serve as the statewide clinical super-user and subject matter expert for HERO addressing provider questions troubleshooting issues and reinforcing best practices. Collaborate with HERO team compliance and clinical leadership to align training content with policy requirements quality initiatives and organizational goals. Monitor provider adoption efficiency and satisfaction with the health record; identify barriers and implement solutions to improve usability. Develop training materials user guides quick reference tools and workflow documentation. Provide ongoing refresher training and coaching for providers especially new hires and those requiring refresher training. Track training outcomes and report progress to leadership recommending process or technology enhancements. Stay current with HERO updates new features policy changes and best practices. Review utilization requests from various prison facilities and take appropriate and timely action on these based on established guidelines. Provides medical care to the offenders and refers to appropriate clinics or specialties as required. Discusses and counsels with patients regarding health-related conditions re-illness or injury. Performs physical examinations on the offenders entering or re-entering DAC system. Documents medical record of all patients seen or treated in the electronic
medical record. Writes prescriptions according to therapeutic objectives explaining treatment to nursing and other staff personnel. Performs minor surgeries if necessary. Performs necessary life-saving procedures in case of emergencies prior to arrival on scene of physician or EMS personnel Relates coordinates and cooperates closely with the Emergency Department. Admits patients to the inpatient unit if applicable or affects the transfer to community hospitals. Provides emergency care for employees referring them to their own physician or follow up treatment. Coordinates and cooperates with Nursing Service as well as other staff physician extenders in rendering appropriate health care. Performs specific clinical duties with supervision under sponsoring physicians instruction and direction. Provides on-call services including evenings weekdays holidays and on-site rounds.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade: MH21
Salary Range: $85753 - $141492

KSA:
- Strong teaching coaching and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse learners.
- High proficiency with HERO and OPUS
- Thorough knowledge of the theory principles and practices of general preventive medicine and of the techniques involved.

Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board.
