Summary

Under general supervision the Assistant Site Operator performs all tasks related to collection compaction and disposal of recyclable materials as well as performs clerical and administrative tasks needed for the professional accomplishment of the general business at the Rural Recycling Center. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires random drug and alcohol testing under the auspices of the federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991. The individual must be flexible if applicable to work on Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:

  • Ensure that rural recycling trucks are available at rural collection sites and participating schools.
  • Collects recyclables at rural collection sites and operates recycling trucks accordingly.
  • Transport recyclables from rural collection sites to the processing site.
  • Operate bailers glass crusher and other equipment at Rural Recycling Center as needed.
  • Prepares and maintains all equipment associated with the Rural Recycling Center.
  • Processes brush drop-off receipts.
  • Types copies receives and routes mail maintains files assists co-workers when necessary maintains office supplies answers and directs telephone calls for Rural Recycling Center. Receives and directs citizens.
  • Provide information and guidance to members of the public regarding the general operating procedures of the Rural Recycling Center.
  • Assists County Engineer Administrative staff with various special projects/programs as needed.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Rural Recycling Manager.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Must have a valid Texas drivers license to operate county vehicles. Provide a copy of your driving record (3-year history) from DPS before the first day of employment.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS

Possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to perform strenuous work outdoors under all weather conditions and be able to establish and maintain an effective and cooperative working relationship with other employees

Desired Minimum Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This position has been identified with possible risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or other various hazards that require immunization against such exposure.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.


All individuals operating commercial vehicles using a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) are required by the DOT to register with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and are subject to pre-employment drug tests random tests post-accident tests immediately following accidents reasonable suspicion and fitness for duty testing per County and DOT Alcohol and Drug testing policies.
