CBC Edmonton is looking for a skilled and collaborative associate producer-technician to join our team on Edmonton AM our weekday morning current affairs radio program.

You are experienced in audio broadcasting and will embrace the fast pace and tight deadlines that come with working with a small close-knit team on live local radio. You will be equally comfortable working in the control room helping to produce live programming as you will be out in the field conducting interviews and gathering audio.

For the first part of your early morning shift you will be in the radio control room while the show is live on-air from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. You will work alongside the director to oversee technical and audio production and ensure the on-air team has the support they need to deliver a compelling program.

During the second half of your shift you will gather mix and edit audio elements as well as chase and produce original interviews and stories that give our audiences a deeper understanding of their community and reflect the top news of the day.

You will put audience needs at the centre of your journalism ensuring our programming connects our audiences to the news they need to know the stories that affect their lives and the issues that resonate in their communities. You are passionate about Edmonton and northern Alberta and its diversity of people and viewpoints and you champion stories from under-represented communities.

You will have a keen ear and a passion for paying attention to the details and as such you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met. You will have strong audio storytelling skills and a desire to work with colleagues across CBC platforms.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Regular working hours are Monday through Friday 4:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Your responsibilities:

  • Operate the studio board when the show is on air and during pre-taped segments.

  • Troubleshoot and provide maintenance for radio studio equipment.

  • Mix audio and mentor team members in audio editing best practices.

  • Set up and operate equipment for remote radio broadcasts.

  • Provide control room support for on-air personalities.

  • Pitch and produce original stories that deepen Edmonton AMs community connections and elevate a range of voices.

  • Chase and book guests and stories that reflect the days top local news.

  • Conduct research and interviews gather audio write radio scripts and package and present content.

  • Identify musical elements for the show.

Your profile:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment and a live program setting.

  • Excellent technical aptitude with control room experience in live broadcast programming.

  • Strong ability to perform a number of functions efficiently and quickly including troubleshooting during live broadcasts.

  • Ability to set up and operate a live remote show broadcast that may include both audio and visual elements.

  • Expertise in audio editing using Dalet Adobe Audition or similar software.

  • Excellent knowledge of the latest audio broadcast gear and workflows.

  • Technical skills to support the visuals team in packaging radio show content for visual platforms as well as going live on streaming platforms for breaking news.

  • Ability to generate pitch and pursue strong story ideas that meet the needs of our audiences in Edmonton and northern Alberta.

  • A proven work ethic strong communication skills and a positive team-first attitude.

  • Willingness to embrace change and new tasks for storytelling across all CBC platforms.

  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Possession of a valid drivers licence and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.

  • University degree with a minimum of three years of recent related experience or graduation from a college program and five years of experience.
