Job Summary

The Foundry Engineer is responsible for the design of gating systems and assisting in the direction and participation of activities in the Pattern Shop. This position is an integral member of the Production Design Team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design gating systems for new and existing jobs through the utilization of modeling and simulation software.
  • Implement and maintain the Process Control Program to consistently produce castings and continually meet customer quality requirements.
  • Work with customers internal and external pattern shops and internal teams to design and develop new tooling.
  • Assist management in corrective action to casting quality problems as they relate to process controls and/or to ensure that corrective actions do not adversely impact process controls.
  • In concert with the Supervisor coordinate and prioritize pattern shop workflow and direct staff to maximize effectiveness.
  • Assist management in the development of new processes or process upgrades.
  • Seek out identify and communicate process changes to improve productivity quality cost health safety and environmental performance.
  • Troubleshoot and implement lean manufacturing concepts promoting a more efficient and effective operation.
  • Ensure the ERP program is up-to-date with the most current tooling information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Technology Engineering or equivalent.
Experience in a manufacturing or foundry environment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
  • Expert-level knowledge of CAD & CAM
  • Increasing knowledge of foundry processes tooling design and construction
  • Growing understanding of pattern shop operations and best practices
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office components including Outlook Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of design parameters for converting fabrications or machined parts to castings
  • Knowledge of how to use relevant information systems to perform the job

TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
Enjoy a generally pleasant office working environment 90% of the time. The work is not physically demanding though long periods of standing and some heavy lifting (5-100 lbs.) are necessary. This position also works in the foundry and pattern shop 10% of the time and is exposed to environmental hazards such as: loud noise dust and dirt coal tar pitch silica vapors and chemicals.
TYPICAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT
Employees will be required to wear steel toe safety shoes eye and hearing protection as needed.
