Description of Work

The clinical dietitian provides assessment of nutritional status and makes recommendations for nutritional needs. The clinical dietitian directs the development and implementation of a nutritional plan of care; counsels patients in the guidelines acceptance and selection of foods needed to meet nutritional goals; and counsels family and/or caregivers. The clinical dietitian will monitor progress and reassess as indicated to provide for long term care when needed. Position serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary treatment team and as a consultant for other staff due to nutritional knowledge and acts as a liaison between area of assignment medical staff and nutritional services department. Working hours will be Monday thru Friday 8:00am 5:00pm on call rotating weekends.

  • Considerable knowledge in the specialized care of chronic and acute medical problems requiring a variety of therapeutic diet modifications and potential food and drug interactions.
  • Ability to function as an independent worker with expertise in the assessment of the nutritional status of adolescents adults and geriatric populations and the determination of needs and the subsequent plan for needed intervention.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of Hospital personnel and with patients with a variety of backgrounds education and mental distress.
  • Ability to lead individual and group nutritional education sessions.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to formulate individual treatment plans.

This position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 with the exception of Articles 6 and 7. State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

This Position Is Designated as Mandatory and Must Report or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Masters degree in foods and nutrition or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration in good standing administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR);

or

Bachelors degree in foods and nutrition dietetics or related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration in good standing administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and two years of experience in a clinical dietary setting.
