I. Job Summary
It is the responsibility of the shift supervisor to direct supervise and coordinate operational functions of the laboratory so that the best service possible is available to the physicians for use in diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
II. Duties And Responsibilities
- Review incomplete work list for each section and prioritizes
the work of self and staff on duty. - Collects receives & accessions a variety of specimens.
- Performs analysis and documents laboratory tests and/or results.
- Evaluates and resolves technical problems.
- Communicates effectively with physicians patients families
visitors and personnel. - Interprets and consults on abnormal or unusual results or test requests.
- Performs and records daily Quality Control and documents corrective action.
- Performs and records maintenance procedures according to policy.
- Performs and records analysis of proficiency tests according to policy.
Other Responsibilities:
- Prints reports at the specified times according to policy.
- Performs basic clerical duties related to test data with notification of critical
values according to policy. - Performs and records analysis of proficiency test according to policy.
- Enters or credits charges in the computer as needed.
- Maintains assigned lab section to include QC maintenance logs and inventory of
supplies and procedure manuals. - Participates in CQI activities.
- Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy. Joint Commission State and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient records.
- Complies with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Completes annual safety infection control and educational requirements.
- Finds coverage for shifts due to call ins.
- Performs employee drug screens when Human Resources are unavailable.
- Trains new MT or MLT employees.
- Authorization for access to EPHI is determined by job function and is under the direction of his/her Department Director.
Employee will be required to be readily available to work during any weather related incidents or other natural disasters and/or any emergency situations that may arise.

B.S. Degree MT (ASCP) Certification or MT classification as recognized by GDCH with certification
CERTIFICATION:
MT classification as recognized by ASCP AAB AMT or HEW
LI CENSURE:
NONE
Education and/ or In-services to verify ability to obtain specimens for the age of the patient i.e. Pediatrics Geriatrics etc.
CPR required every two (2) years.
IV. Qualifications And Experience
At least two (2) years experience at the M.T. level required.
