Description of Work

Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands NC State Parks has a Maintenance/Construction Technician II position available. This role is responsible for hands-on work maintaining grounds buildings facilities and equipment. Work includes custodial tasks boundary line clearing routine maintenance trail maintenance trash collection mowing and trimming prescribed burn assistance and/or auto mechanics.

Key Responsibilities
Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing carpentry electrical HVAC and facility maintenance and/or auto mechanics.
Operating large and small equipment and/or tools.
Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
Assisting in housekeeping.
May Supervise temporary and permanent staff community service participates and/or volunteers on special projects.

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed onthe vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are notrequired. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in atleasttwoof the following: carpentry plumbing electrical and/or auto mechanics.

  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.

  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings facilities and grounds maintenance equipment.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule is Monday-Thursday 7:30 A.M-6:30 P.M with the possible option of Monday-Friday 7:30 A.M-4:00 P.M; must be able to work evenings holidays and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary.

  • Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Position is considered Essential/Mandatory Staff and required to work on adverse weather days during park emergencies and may be called to work on special events.

  • Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Within 12-24 months of hire date must have the ability to obtain and maintain:

  • Class A CDL

  • CPR Certification

  • Emergency Medical Responder Certification

  • Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications

  • Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary tree removal within the park.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification:

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
