The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties:The objective of this internship project will be a well-organized research library. The internship will also introduce prospective public historians to day-to-day life at a historic site.
Major Task to be Performed: First the intern assist with the organization of the sites research library and assist site staff in labeling cataloging digitizing and publicizing the sites collection of research materials. Second the intern will provide visitor services and experience the public side of historic sites. This will include welcoming and greeting visitors leading guided tours of the historic Harper House and answering visitor questions. Other tasks will entail historical research transcription and general administrative assistance. The intern will help the staff with special projects as requested - to include assisting with all special events and interpretive programs that occur during the summer.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: A well-organized digital and physical research library that can be utilized by site staff genealogists Civil War historians and general researchers.
Academic Majors Desired: History/Public History/Library Sciences/Archives
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
-General historical knowledge of the Civil War era.
-Experience conducting research with primary and secondary resources.
-Strong organizational skills.
-The ability to multi-task and to work independently when necessary.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
