Middle and Upper School Counselor Friends Select School seeks a full time school counselor or other mental health professional as middle and upper school counselor (grades 5-12).This individual will work in close coordination with the schools psychologist as well as other members of the middle school and upper school Guidance Teams and will be available to provide both individual and group-based counseling services to middle school and upper school students. Additionally this individual would communicate with families and with faculty members regarding students they are serving and programming they are involved with implementing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct individual counseling services to both Middle School and Upper School students which includes recognizing and responding to student mental health needs and assisting students and families in connecting to resources for therapeutic support and long-term counseling outside of school as needed
Manage an individual caseload of students which may include conducting crisis assessments and interventions around safety concerns and other urgent mental health matters in collaboration with the schools psychologist and other Guidance Team members.
Serve as a member of the middle and upper school Guidance Teams collaborating with faculty members administrators families and the community for student success
Consult with parents/guardians and teachers/advisors to provide mental health informed guidance
Attend and contribute to appropriate division/faculty meetings consulting as a resource to faculty and administration and providing psychoeducation as appropriate
Required Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
Masters degree as Certified School Counselor Social Worker or Clinical or Counseling Psychology (license preferred but not required)
Experience providing counseling support in a school setting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to working in and working to create a welcoming inclusive antiracist community with a desire to continue personal growth in anti-bias education
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working with Middle and Upper School age students
Prior experience working in an Independent School setting
We welcome candidates whose teaching experience has not happened within an independent school. Candidates who are from diverse backgrounds and/or who have experience in cultural competency work are strongly encouraged to apply.
