Description of Work

This position is located at Johnston Correctional Facility in Smithfield NC. Positions in this class perform the full range of journey work duties associated with the construction maintenance and repair of air-conditioning systems and associated air handling chilled water distribution and control addition positions maintain refrigeration units and their control systems.

Salary Range: $34270 - $47121

Working knowledge of refrigeration theory. Working knowledge of operating (BAU) building automation systems. Working knowledge of troubleshooting of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control systems.

This candidate for this Maintenance HVAC Technician (HVAC Mechanic I) position shall have experience in the construction installation maintenance and repair of HVAC systems equipment and machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences:

Demonstrated experience in the installation maintenance or repair of heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment including but not limited to chillers air handlers pumps ventilators fans boilers piping mini splits etc.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers air handling chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations part 82 subpart F.

Documented knowledge of practices methods materials and equipment used in the operation maintenance and repair of industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
