Theparalegal/legal assistantis responsible forthe following:
Respondingto K-12 legalquestions froma variety of stakeholdersincluding school district representativesgovernmental agenciesteacherslegislators and advocates.
Assistingwith the preparation and coordination of rulemaking activities including compiling public comments drafting rulemaking notices and agendaseditingand filing rules and preparing materials forthe Joint Committee for Government Operations in the TN legislature.
SupportingtheGCin preparingrules and policiesforBoard meetingsand other legal proceedings.
Conducting legal research on K-12 education matters as requested by the GC.
Trackingdeadlinesrulemakinghearing schedules and regulatory timelines to ensure compliancewith applicable laws and procedures.
Providingadministrativeassistance including:
Scheduling meetings for the GC and legal team;
Processing travel and expense reports;
Filinglegal documents;
Respondingtopublic requests to speak atBoard meetings;
EnsuringBoardmembersand staff complete annual compliance forms;
Procuring itemsrequiredby the legal team;
Printing and mailing SBE documents;
Booking meeting rooms for team events;
Assistingwith scheduling and hosting Webex meetings for the Boards leadership team;
Compiling and organizing binders for Board meetings and administrative hearings
Drafting proofreading and formattinglegal documents including rules orders memoranda contracts and correspondence.
Maintainingand organizinglegal team electronic filesin accordance withstate retention and confidentiality requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the work of the Office of General Counsel.
RequiredQualifications
Candidatesmusthave:
Anassociate or bachelorsdegree.
Aparalegalcertificationorat least two years of experience as aparalegal legal assistant or in a similar role.
Impeccable editing skills includingextraordinaryattention to detailandthe ability to review legalteam documents forspelling stylistic and grammatical errors.
Outstanding organizational skills.
Ability to work independently andmanage multiple projects simultaneously.
A demonstratedabilityto meet and exceedexpectations.
Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint).
A commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
This is a part-time positionwithanticipatedwork hoursof10-15hours per weekto be completedanytime between Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. and 5 applicant selected canchoose theirpreferred can be completed over the course of two days or spread outincrementallythroughout the work week.
