Job Summary
Job Description:
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the regions success including growth and development transportation water resources services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the regions collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.
The ARC Multimodal and Livability team in the Transportation Planning Department is seeking a part-time temporary individual to be responsible for spatial data collection and processing to support active transportation planning. Also the position will work with team members on bike network modeling bikeway comfort index pedestrian bridge efficacy research etc.
The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with working with spatial data to edit shapefiles change field information modify existing features reshape and edit vertices. To be successful the candidate should have solid time management skills ability to work independently and possess a desire to learn overcome challenges and solve problems.
This temporary position is not eligible for benefits working up to 24 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects and process various spatial data including facility attribute data census data parcel data zoning data land use data and regional growth data;
- Supports active transportation planning research;
- Perform other duties as assigned to support agency goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma and currently enrolled in college or university majoring incity or regional planning urban studies public policytechnology engineering GIS geography statistics or related field;
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree candidate in city and regional planning urban studies public policy GIS or statistics or related field
- Working experience and knowledge in spatial economics city and regional planning urban studies land use modeling transportation modeling statistical analysis and database management
- Experience using census data and various local government data
Required Knowledge Skills Abilities and Competencies:
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap or Pro);
- Possess strong analytical and technical skills;
- Ability to establish priorities and organize work;
- Ability to multi-task with attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently with general instructions;
- Ability to work well in a team environment;
