JOB TITLE: PARENT INVOLVEMENT FACILITATOR
OFFICE OF STUDENT SERVICES
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Works with parents of children who receive Title I intervention to improve Reading or Math skills to promote and encourage a better working relationship between the home school community.
Performs related professional administrative and supervisory duties as required. Reports to the Executive Director of Student Services.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Interprets appropriate district policies for staff parents and the public.
Provides support to parents and families on the best practices in the areas of reading writing and communication strategies.
Guides acceleration and retention processes and responds to inquiries.
Organizes leads and determines screening and selection of students. Administers evaluates and communicates screening results to parents and families.
Compiles data for and prepares various statistical administrative and professional reports as required by the district and/or other agencies.
Represents the school district at meetings as required or appropriate.
Facilitates Professional Development for elementary teachers and staff.
Prepares and monitors departmental budget.
Builds partnerships with and makes referrals to district and community professionals and agencies. Engages parents/legal guardians in conversations related to their childs needs.
Facilitates relationships among district staff and community such as social workers speech language therapists psychologists teachers counselors school and district administrators social service agencies and others.
Facilitates and/or participates in frequent meetings with teachers principals and administrators to discuss issues related to areas of responsibility.
Collaborates with elementary school administrators regarding intervention and parenting programs.
Collaborates with the Office of Instruction regarding best practices applicable to elementary students.
Assist in the recruitment and hiring of staff for elementary schools as appropriate.
Reviews and analyzes student achievement data to assist in the appropriate placement of students.
Participates with district Content Coordinators on elementary curriculum standards and grade level transition standards.
Conducts classroom observations and provides feedback for instructional growth of teachers and staff.
Provides supervision of Family Educator office and staff.
Surveys parents on a yearly basis to determine their needs.
Organizes provides and sometimes designs parent and staff workshops. Presentations/workshops include but are
not limited to topics such as: Understanding Special Education Autism ADD/ADHD SSI Stress Management coping with the responsibility of raising children with disabilities etc.
Provides a monthly newsletter for parents with helpful hints and dates for upcoming workshops or community
information.
Maintains records of activities and parent trainings.
Submits required reports to South Carolina Department of Education and the Director of Special Education reporting activities of the Parent Resource Center.
Attends trainings and conferences related to special education issues. Attends trainings and conferences related to Parent Involvement issues.
Maintains the Parent Resource Center/Parent Involvement lending library. Purchase current materials books pamphlets etc. for parent/staff information.
Provides parents/staff with community resource information as needed.
Maintains the Parent Resource Center/Parent Involvement room.
Designs and writes the parent involvement handbooks brochures flyers and newsletters for the Parent
Resource/Parent Involvement Center.
Helps to update Parent Involvement Policies and Compacts.
Attends community meetings to receive current community related committees.
Informs school staff of information that would benefit parents and families. (Ex: upcoming trainings conferences support groups etc)
Organizes and facilitates monthly Parent Support Groups for families that have children with disabilities. Organizes and facilitates Parent Involvement Activities in all Title I Schools
Attends meetings on behalf of a request from a parent.
Makes home visits when needed.
Meets with or speaks with parents regarding school-related issues.
Mails information to parents regarding information on specific disabilities and how to become more involved with
their childs education.
Attends the required annual end-of-year training for all Parent Resource Centers.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs routine administrative/office tasks as required including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence copying and filing documents answering the telephone sending and receiving faxes entering and retrieving computer data etc.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a masters degree supplemented by three to five years of experience in the classroom and/or in education administration or an equivalent combination of education training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Must possess a valid S.C. Teaching Certificate. Must possess a valid state drivers license. The Parent Resource Involvement Facilitator should be familiar with Special Education Laws/Policies from a parents perspective. Experience working with groups; presenting information; planning activities understanding of basic technology needed for presentations and communication with parents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
