Job Summary

Our family & locally owned Hospice & Palliative Care is a dedicated healthcare provider with a compassionate focus on supporting patients and their families. We employ a multi-disciplinary approach to hospice care seeing each patient as an individual with distinctive needs. We are currently seeking an experienced Regional Director of Nursing to lead our Los Angeles CA office ensuring the highest standards of patient care and medical compliance. Our Regional DON will be responsible for the overall supervision direction and quality of hospice clinical services. This role establishes implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that promote excellence in patient care meet regulatory and accreditation standards and align with the organizations mission and philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient care services provided by clinical personnel.
  • Provides leadership guidance and counseling to Coordinators and Clinical/Nursing Supervisors to support continuous improvement in hospice care services.
  • Assists Clinical/Nursing Supervisors with clinical team management staffing and care planning.
  • Supports clinical personnel in the assessment planning implementation and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care as needed.
  • Assists the Executive Director/Administrator with the preparation and administration of the organizations budget.
  • Interprets operational and census data to identify trends that may affect staffing revenue or expenses.
  • Evaluates the performance of Clinical/Nursing Supervisors.
  • Coaches Clinical/Nursing Supervisors in developing effective clinician performance evaluation skills.
  • Participates in the hiring evaluation and termination of organizational personnel in accordance with policy.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of clinicians or more frequently when indicated.
  • Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records statistics and reports for evaluation and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensures clinical records are maintained in compliance with local state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care services.
  • Develops implements and evaluates orientation programs for new personnel; provides orientation directly or through delegation.
  • Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs at least quarterly to meet staff education and training needs
  • Participates in organizational performance evaluation through Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) productivity monitoring and quarterly and annual reviews; ensures the safe and high-quality delivery of hospice services.
  • Assists in the development of organizational goals and develops recommends and administers policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all local state and federal licensure and certification requirements and maintains compliance with Joint Commission Home Care standards.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in nursing and hospice care and shares relevant information with staff.
  • Promotes hospice referrals and represents the organization within the healthcare community.
  • Serves as Acting Executive Director/Administrator in the absence of the Executive Director/Administrator with full delegated authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Administrator.
  • Works no more than 80 hours per month.
  • May occasionally be required to travel to the Portland office for training supervision and audits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of CA.
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing is required.
  • Masters degree in Nursing Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hospice or home health experience with at least two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospice regulations Conditions of Participation (CoPs) and Joint Commission standards.
  • Strong leadership organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and apply findings to staffing budgeting and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel as needed and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of hospice care.
