Indigenous Outreach Social Worker

1.0 EFT Term Position

POSITION: Indigenous Outreach Social Worker

PROGRAM: Primary Care

EFT: 1.0 (full-time)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Chronic Disease Coordinator

STATUS: One-Year Term (Covering Maternity Leave of Absence)

SALARY: $40.5 - $52.9 per hour

UNION: MAHCP

Anticipated Start and End Date: January 2026 December 2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Indigenous Outreach Social Worker will work together with an interdisciplinary team and community partners to offer the best quality service to the residents of Inkster. The Indigenous Outreach Social Worker will actively encourage community and client engagement through a diverse range of client care initiatives. Working closely with other NorWest programs the Indigenous Outreach Social Worker will support community resource centre initiatives and provide community programming group facilitation and client advocacy as well as being a source for culturally appropriate resources. The Indigenous Outreach Social Worker will provide counselling to Inkster community residents ages 12 and up through referrals from agencies and those self-referred. The Indigenous Outreach Social Worker will support other NorWest Initiatives such as Community Resource Triage Dialectical Behavior Therapy and other programs as needed

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree in social work and registered and in good standing with the Manitoba College of Social Workers
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-4 years counselling experience
  • Minimum 1-year experience working with community development and community education
  • Knowledge of community resources and community development principles and practices
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Skills in leadership development and group facilitation
  • Empathetic non-judgmental approach
  • Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings
  • Knowledge and experience with diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
  • Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous populations and knowledge of culturally appropriate resources is considered an asset
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset
  • Connections/networking with Indigenous community (ex. access to elders) is considered an asset
  • Experience with traditional indigenous cultural ceremonies is considered an asset
  • Ability to lead/instruct traditional Indigenous cultural practices is considered an asset
  • Ability to work some evenings and or Saturdays
  • Access to a vehicle and valid drivers license
  • Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Records Check required
