Job Summary
Lead Backend Developer (NYC Hybrid)
Location: New York City (Flatiron District Manhattan)
Work model: Hybrid 2 days on-site 3 days remote
Start: ASAP
Type: Full-time permanent (W2)
Role Summary
Our client is hiring a Lead Backend Developer to take technical ownership of backend services for a client-facing platform. This is a hands-on senior role involving architecture API development and collaboration with frontend DevOps and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable REST APIs using or Java
- Own backend architecture and contribute to technical decisions
- Work with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Ensure code quality through reviews testing and documentation
- Collaborate with frontend DevOps and stakeholders
- Support CI/CD containerization and cloud deployment
- Mentor junior developers (if applicable)
Technical Requirements
- 5 years of backend development experience
- Strong production experience with (TypeScript) or Java (Spring Boot)
- Experience with backend frameworks (NestJS Express Spring Boot etc.)
- Database experience (PostgreSQL MongoDB Redis etc.)
- API documentation (Swagger / OpenAPI)
- Familiarity with Docker CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Git-based workflows
Nice to Have
- Microservices experience
- DevOps exposure (CI/CD containers)
- Some frontend familiarity
- Experience working in consulting or client-facing environments
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $150000 (negotiable)
- Bonus: Up to 10% annually
- 401(k) with company match
- $600/month health insurance allowance
