Position Overview:

Greenlife Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to provide specialized psychiatric services to public safety and public health personnel through the Public Safety Wellness Center serving Fairfax County. The position focuses on evaluation treatment and ongoing management of behavioral health conditions common in high-stress trauma-exposed roles such as law enforcement fire and rescue and emergency medical services.

Qualifications:

  • Job qualifications & certifications:
    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
    • Completion of an accredited four-year psychiatry residency program.
    • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine issued by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
    • Successful completion of USMLE or COMLEX-USA (for DOs).
    • Board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or board-eligibility with clear intent to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
    • Minimum of five (5) years post-residency clinical experience in psychiatry.
    • Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention trauma-informed care and behavioral health issues affecting public safety personnel.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry Emergency Psychiatry or Occupational Psychiatry.
    • Advanced training or certification in Trauma-Informed Care or Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
    • Prior clinical experience working with law enforcement officers firefighters EMS personnel or corrections staff.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct fitness-for-duty evaluations and provide expert testimony when required.
    • Familiarity with public safety culture including rotating shifts exposure to critical incidents and organizational stressors.
    • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams with psychologists social workers peer support programs and wellness staff.
    • Ability to provide telepsychiatry services and rapid-response consultation during critical incidents or emergencies.

JobResponsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for referred public safety and public health personnel including initial assessments within defined timeframes (e.g. within 14 calendar days of referral).
  • Develop individualized trauma-informed treatment plans that reflect each individuals clinical needs occupational demands work schedule and safety considerations.
  • Provide ongoing medication management and monitoring including prescribing adjusting and evaluating the safety and efficacy of psychiatric medications for personnel in safety-sensitive roles (e.g. armed officers emergency vehicle operators).
  • Deliver crisis intervention and short-term stabilization services including:
    • On-call availability during regular business hours for acute mental health crises.
    • Response to crisis situations within one hour of notification.
    • Risk assessment (suicidality homicidally impairment) and implementation of immediate stabilization strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team at the Public Safety Wellness Center including psychologists behavioral health clinicians social workers peer support personnel and wellness staff participating in case reviews care
  • Conferences and wellness programming as needed.
  • Provide services via both in-person and telehealth modalities ensuring timely access for urgent and routine appointments and facilitating continuity of care across agencies and shifts.
  • Identify and treat PTSD trauma-related disorders anxiety depression substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions using evidence-based psychiatric interventions.
  • Evaluate and treat individuals with substance use disorders coordinating with addiction treatment providers and community resources as appropriate.
  • Assist with aftercare and discharge planning from inpatient or residential psychiatric settings ensuring appropriate follow-up and reintegration to work when indicated.
  • Coordinate referrals and linkages to community-based psychiatric services when ongoing care is better delivered outside the Wellness Center while maintaining appropriate communication and continuity.
  • Maintain accurate timely and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA and applicable federal state and local privacy regulations as well as contract requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required monthly reports to the County summarizing service volumes (e.g. number of assessments crisis encounters) crisis activity and outcome trends while protecting individual anonymity and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all contractual legal and ethical standards including Fairfax Countys non-discrimination drug-free workplace data protection and audit/access-to-records provisions.
