Job Summary

Department Overview

The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor for MRI reports directly to the MRI Manager and is responsible for daily coordination of the MRI department functions to assure services to be delivered expediently and efficiently through effective organization of staff and workflow. Work effectively with The Center For Health and Healing Imaging Manager and the PET/MR Manager to assure appropriate staff coverage in addition to coordination and coverage of MRI scanners in the main HRC department DCH DCHOR and Beaverton locations. Maintains knowledge of department procedures in order to provide assistance throughout the patient care continuum. Performs MRI exams as required. Communicates effectively with staff and works collaboratively with Radiologists Physicists clinicians and ancillary services to assure the highest quality of patient care with MRI exams in addition to the coordination of multiple research exam protocols. The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor for MRI will provide technical expertise and recommendations as requested by their manager(s) and/or the DI Senior Director. The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor for MRI will assure continuous communication with problem solving of MRI scanner service issues with clinical engineering the on-site vendor service engeneer managers and supervisors as appropriate. The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor for MRI will perform other duties as assigned. Will serve as a technical resource to the staff management imaging physicists and Radiologists as necessary.

Function/Duties of Position

Daily Department Operations Management - Includes but is not limited to:

  • Staff scheduling workflow oversight and enhancement rounding equipment issues/coordination and meeting participation.
  • Conducting or co-facilitating staff meetings
  • Participate in department planning and operation meetings
  • Coordinating coverage for vacations appointments and any other outages during on duty and off duty hours;
  • Coordinate training of new staff technologists maintain staff competency and coordinate the training necessary to keep technical staff current with the latest technological advances.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital and university regulatory and safety requirements
  • Identify training and educational needs of staff and determine appropriate resources to meet those needs.
  • This position will be responsible for practicing cost effective use of supplies and materials.
  • Prepares formal performance evaluations and GROW conversations discuss performance results with employees.
  • In coordination with MRI Manager continuously supervise all MRI Imaging areas functions and workflow. Provide workflow analysis and changes as needed or required to meet service and budget expectations improved safety for patients and staff.
  • In coordination with MRI Manager analyze budget and productivity metrics and provide detail of department performance.
  • Foster the OHSU Lean principles of OPEX with participation of daily department and appropriate inter-department huddles to ensure continuous improvement of daily work.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of department procedures in order to provide assistance throughout the patient care continuum. Provides strong partnership support with all department faculty resident RN technologists and support staff.
  • Involved in recruitment and retention. Optimizes plans for onboarding and employee engagement.
  • Maintain overall departmental cleanliness organization DNV compliance
  • This position assists the MRI Manager and Assistant Department Director with other supervisory duties as instructed.

IMAGING

  • Ensures quality images are provided with accuracy efficiency and timely follow through of exams.
  • Maintains level of technical knowledge and ability to provide scanning assistance in MRI department when necessary.
  • Understands complex Magnetic Resonance physics and has the technical expertise to create and manage complex imaging protocols.
  • Insures imaging equipment and work areas are neat and clean to meet all compliance standards.
  • Demonstrates technical expertise to create and manage complex imaging protocls reconstruction and 3D reformations. Demonstrates an understanding of specific normal anatomy and abnormal pathology to
    aid in the diagnosis of disease. Must be able to decide on the completeness and quality of the patients studies when working independently of a Radiologist.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on patient positioning for MRI examinations with a high regard for their safety care and comfort. Assures that MRI technologist work collaboratively with department RN staff to
    prescreen patient exams.
  • Insures all aspects of scanning duties including data entry into the radiology information system and the hospital billing system are completed appropriately.
  • Demonstrates competent knowledge and skills in the use of all MRI scanners and related ancillary equipment within the MRI Department. Stays current in regards to new MRI technology hardware and software upgrades.
  • Coordinates all aspects of research studies from initial request to scan and ensures that all parameters of the study are performed correctly.
  • Meets all MRI Technologist competencies.
  • Assures that staff inform patient and/or family of all needed information concerning the exam performed.
  • Assists in the rotational training of Radiology students.
  • This position also provides technical support and other related duties for MRI clinical research studies.
  • Serves as a key prticipant in the MRI Safety Committee working with Radiologists physicists and lead techs to maintain and optimize patient care and safety.
  • Practices professional communications appearance conduct punctuality attendance and attitude that leads to physician patient and co-worker respect and confidence.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic (modality specific) program that meets the quals to take and pass the (modality specific) board exams
  • 2 years management/lead tech experience and 2 years Tech experience
  • experience working in a level 1 or 2 trauma center.
  • Modality Specific registration OBMI License BLS

Job Related Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Have ability to demonstrate knowledge in MRI imaging and the understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Have the ability to make independent decisions regardingpatient care and the completeness and appropriateness of exams ordered.
    Good judgment decision-making organization and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to stand lift and move patients.
  • Familiarity with and be accountable to maintaining DNV/CMS requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or Equivalent years experience (3 years demonstrated progressive Imaging leadership)
  • Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) MR Safety Officer certification

Additional Details

Full-time positions with flexible work schedule and extended hours as required. This position works in a busy environment with many interruptions multiple demands and people interactions. It requires being exposed to noise radiation and human tissue/fluids. Must be able to be an On-Call Administrator on Duty rotation after hours and weekends approximately 6 -7 weeks per year.
