About the Role

We are seeking an experiencedEnvironmental Health & Safety Specialistto lead and support EHS programs across our operations. This role ensures compliance promotes a strong safety culture and drives continuous improvement in environmental and occupational health practices.

The successful candidate willown and maintain the existing ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. These systems are fully implemented at our manufacturing plant; the candidate willfamiliarize themselves with these systems and ensure ongoing compliance effectiveness and improvement.

Our matrix structure integrates EHS and QA functions. The successful candidate will work closely with QA during audits and help maintain the Integrated Management System leveraging shared processes and data to drive operational excellence and ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of EHS for site and field operations.
  • Maintain the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 portion of the Integrated Management System manual.
  • Ensure compliance with federal provincial and local regulations (e.g. WorkSafeBC OSHA).
  • Serve as case manager and return-to-work coordinator for WorkSafe cases; oversee light-duty programs and support participating associates.
  • Develop and update EHS policies procedures and training programs.
  • Lead audits inspections and risk assessments; implement corrective actions.
  • Support sustainability initiatives to reduce waste emissions and energy use.
  • Investigate incidents identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Manage emergency response planning and hazardous waste programs.
  • Co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Collaborate with QA during integrated audits and compliance activities.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Health & Safety and Environment Health and Safety (EHS) standards and practices
  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety Environmental Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 years of EHS experience preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse teams
  • Strong understanding of Workplace Safety and Occupational Health principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks
  • Proven experience managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems
  • Experience developing and delivering Safety Training programs
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH CRSP or equivalent are an asset

Compensation for this role will be based on experience and salary range is $82000 $95000 annually.

As a member of our team within your role as our Environmental Safety & Health Specialistyou will develop implement and maintain environmental safety andhealth programs for our manufacturing facility. You will provide assistance to all areas to achieve compliance with regulatory agencies in order to minimize safety hazards while promoting a safe and healthy work environment.


HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

  • Coordinate safety compliance; maintain a comprehensive understanding of corporate policies and government regulations

  • Maintain the facilities program and certification for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System

  • Coordinate conduct and document health safety and environmental training programs. This includes safety orientation for all new and transferring associates. Review and revise as needed the health and safety program

  • Coordinate training and communication activities to build management and employee understanding of and commitment to safety goals

  • Manage activities of the safety committee and safety teams safety audits accident investigations ergonomic improvement projects workers compensation case management oversee any light duty programs emergency response planning safety and environmental training

  • Responsible for compliance activities including records documentation generating regulatory reports and performing inspections. Assure environmental programs remain compliant with regulatory and EMS (Environmental Management System) requirements. Maintain job related procedures within EMS

  • Act as medical case manager and return to work coordinator for all WorkSafeBC cases. Bring leadership to modified duty program and support associates currently in the program

  • Plan implement and monitor accident prevention and loss control programs to minimize injuries and the costs associated with those injuries. Conduct incident/accident investigations to identify root causes and to identify opportunities for accident prevention

  • Champion on-going ergonomic improvement projects. Provide project management related to ergonomic improvements work station layout and correction of unsafe working conditions

  • Compile necessary safety reports including analysis of incidents injuries and illness including but not limited to frequency causation severity and costs. Maintain and coordinate records of employee safety training

  • Ensure required emergency response planning has been conducted and implemented.

  • Obtain and distribute safety related promotional material (i.e. posters check stuffers and mailings) within the plant

  • Coordinate training of both office and shop employees as required

  • Coordinate the first-aid personnel responsibilities

  • Acts as team member/co-leader and liaison for the facilities environmental and sustainability initiatives. Coordinate the requirements reporting testing and disposal of materials

  • Maintain and lead hazardous solid and special waste management programs.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have three to five years experience in a manufacturing industrial setting. A degree/diploma in a safety/health/environment related field or relevant experience combined with education in a safety/health/environment related field such as OHS practitioner diploma Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation (CRSP) National Construction Safety Certification (NCSO) or nursing program is required.

Experience and/or education in the following are considered assets:

  • WHMIS first aid/CPR Certified and familiarity with documented Quality and ESH programs

  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations

  • Creative problem solving ability

  • Ability to effectively work with company employees in a manufacturing setting

  • Computer skills (MS Office products)

  • Experience in manufacturing construction military medical or other industry-related fields are transferable for the right candidate

JOB ASSIGNMENT:

  • Thisis a permanent position with a flexible schedule. The position is 24 hrs/week to start with potential to expand into full-time hours over time. Hours per week may increase subject to workload requirements determined by the company and your supervisor.
