Job Summary

Assists the executive director in planning and developing all aspects of the APIs activities where assistance is requested or assignment is delegated. Assists the executive director in executing programs to influence issues of concern to industry including legislative regulatory local government and federal matters. Works to build partnerships with relevant state local and federal officials.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the executive director manages assigned regulatory and legislative issues.
  • Anticipates and identifies emerging and potential issues impacting the petroleum and natural gas industry. Develops and executes programs or activities to address these issues on behalf of member companies.
  • Provides leadership in the development of the petroleum and natural gas industrys regulatory & local government priorities for the state and keeps fully informed of the industrys priorities on federal issues. Works with the executive director to ensure the state offices activities meet these priorities.
  • Works with the director to keep the appropriate advisory committees and members of the state working group (other interested company personnel) informed on matters of interest and ensure the appropriate input is solicited to maintain effective management of these matters.
  • Develops and maintains close cooperative relationships with a variety of allied businesses industries and other key constituencies with interests similar to the petroleum and natural gas industry and provides the leadership in development of ad hoc coalitions among these constituencies to carry out programs of mutual interests.
  • Assists executive director in managing the activities and operation of the state office and assumes an agreed upon leadership role in the absence of the executive director.
  • Cultivates good working relationships with regulatory agencies state legislatures API members planning staff etc.
  • Under the supervision of the executive director assist in the preparation of testimony data position papers and other appropriate communications to promote the position of the industry on issues before the legislature and regulatory agencies.

Key Relationships

  • Manages issues assigned by the executive director including taking a leadership role in organizing and leading specific state advisory committees.
  • Requires a close relationship with API and industry personnel government officials key private sector constituencies professional and non-profit organizations the media and others.

Qualifications

  • Requires 7-10 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelors degree in relevant area or other related field equivalent work experience.
  • Requires knowledge of key programmatic operational and financial issues and priorities.
  • A degree in political science public administration law or a related field.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Requires a working knowledge of the operations of state and local government.
  • Understanding of the petroleum and natural gas industry preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery meeting rooms etc. on occasion
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25%

Percentage of travel time expected for the position where the travel occurs such as locally or in specific countries or states and whether the travel is overnight.
