PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As Senior Journalist youll lead editorial content in the Stories Audio team across BBC World Service and 5Live sports news including Sportsworld Sport Today Stumped Not by the Playbook our podcast brands and major global events like the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euros. Youll shape distinctive audio storytelling manage live and recorded output and support a talented team. This role combines editorial leadership and collaboration to create compelling sports content for a diverse global audience.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- As a Senior Journalist youll be a key part of the management team making editorial decisions developing programme ideas and fostering an inclusive environment. Responsibilities include scripting editing and complying content forprogrammes podcasts and social media as well as supporting staff and encouraging creativity.
- Youll work across World Service programmes such as Stumped Sportsworld and Sport Today delivering complex live shows under tight deadlines and providing strong editorial leadership to ensure BBC standards are met.
- Youll plan and produce outside broadcasts at major events manage resources and budgets and build strong relationships across BBC teams to maximise reach. Additional duties include briefing on-air talent giving constructive feedback andpromoting diversity in both workforce and output.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Proven strong editorial judgement and an ability to lead a team is crucial overseeing and delegating work to maintain effective performance especially under pressure.
- Extensive live broadcast output experience working with different presenters and producers producing broadcast content and programmes and managing expectations and the varied demands of live output.
- Demonstrable knowledge of a wide range of sports and a proven ability to write for radio audiences generate creative storytelling ideas and a knowledge and passion for World Service and 5live output.
- A positive mindset whether working in a team or alone is important: we want enthusiasm ideas and creativity coupled with good communication and organisational skills.An eagerness to make our content have a bigger digital presence and be multi platform joined up with the Stories team and other BBC Sport outlets to get maximum exposure.
- Demonstrable commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understand how individual differences can benefit the workplace and output.
DESIRABLE:
- Curiosity to continue learning particularly in relation to our audiences programme platforms and the different sports we cover.
- Experience of working with/creating digital content (podcasts digital video or social media).
- Language skills
