Within the Data Collection Bureau and our Geohydrologic Data Section youll have the opportunity to assist with complex hydrogeologic investigations and technical Geohydrologic Data Section develops and implements hydrogeologic investigations by participating in exploratory coring testing well construction well repair and abandonments geophysical logging data management and joining our teamyoull play an important role in enhancing the results to ensure a brighter future for the environment of Florida.

Compensation:
High School Student Intern - $14.00 per hour
College Student Intern - $16.00 per hour
Essential Functions
- Assists field geologist with data collection activities at core sites including describing lithology from core samples setting up packer tests collecting aquifer and water quality samples and setting up and monitoring aquifer tests
- Assists with entering data into databases and spreadsheets. Reviews qualitative data of all information incorporated into the database and edits necessary image and text files
- Assists with data entry by reviewing all qualitative information and metadata incorporated into databases and editing necessary image and text files.
- Utilizes several GIS-related (i.e. ESRI) product to assist with creating maps shapefiles web viewers field forms etc..
- Assists geologists with report preparation including generation of figures and tables
- Assists geologists with other office and field duties as needed
Associated knowledge skills and abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with a team of highly-skilled individuals
- Basic knowledge of the Districts hydrogeologic framework and principles
- Understanding of geologic concepts related to stratigraphy sedimentology and physical/historical geology including the geology of Florida
- Basic understanding of hydrogeological concepts including aquifer dynamics groundwater flow and groundwater chemistry
- Ability to perform data management tasks including using spreadsheets and performing data entry
Working Conditions
Work will be conducted in an office environment or in the field. Work in the field is frequently performed at remote undeveloped sites potentially under adverse weather conditions. Frequent travel to well sites throughout the District may be required. Office work activity is primarily sedentary and the employee will need to have the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Field work may include working in muddy dry dusty or smoky areas. May be exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity as well as a variety of pests including mosquitoes and ticks. Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. Must be able to occasionally bend squat crawl and reach above shoulder level. Must be able to operate a motorized vehicle for two hours or more at a time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environments vary by assigned business unit.
Required Credentials for Hydrogeologist Student Intern Opportunity
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Be at least part-time and currently enrolled in an accredited college university or other recognized educational or vocational program
- Maintain a minimum GPAof 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
- Provide a copy ofOfficial school transcript within 30 days of employment

Preferred Credentials for Hydrogeologist Student Intern Opportunity
- A minimum of nine hours of college-level hydrogeology GIS or environmental/water-resource related courses
