Job Summary

This is a full-time position.

Salary range: $120000 to $ total compensation for this Assistant Head position is based onplacement on the Havergal College faculty grid plus a $20000 leadershipstipend (included in the above salary range). Grid placement isdetermined by teaching qualifications and experience up to a maximum of 11years and is scheduled to increase for the academic year. Finalplacement within the range is based on the successful candidates credentialsand years of experience.

The Position:

The AssistantHead of Upper School Senior Division (AHU - Senior Division) works diligentlyto ensure that each Senior School student is known valued and cared for andworks collaboratively with the Upper School Leadership team (AHU - MiddleDivision Director of Boarding Directors of Guidance Manager of the HealthCentre and Co-Curricular Directors) to create an engaging school environmentwhere students have access to a breadth of opportunities in a community thatprioritizes wellbeing belonging and engagement.

The AHU -Senior Division oversees the progress and development of students in Grades9-12. They set the direction for the content and delivery of morningprogramming including grade-based programming the House program and theTeacher Advisor program. The AHU - Senior Division plays a key role inupholding the Code of Conduct and expectations for Senior School students.

This roleincludes teaching responsibilities.

SpecificAccountabilities:

Oversight of the safety progressand development of Senior School students (Grades 9-12):

  • Upholding the Code of Conduct andmaintaining a safe caring and inclusive environment in the Senior School withhigh student expectations.
  • Develop and facilitate onboardingprogramming (Welcome Week Activities Grade 9 camp mentor/buddy programetc.).
  • Creating meaningful large groupgrade experiences that contribute to the goals of the Upper School.
  • Partnering with GuidanceCounsellors and Learning Support Specialists in supporting proactive studentsupport strategies and setting guidelines for expectations. Support faculty intheir work with students.
  • Review student timetables to bestsupport the student learning experience.
  • Work with parents to create apartnership between home and the Senior School.
  • Work with House Captains andSenior Year Presidents to develop strong community programming and tofacilitate partnerships between the administration and student voice andevents.
  • Be a presence for the safe andefficient arrival and departure of all Senior School students and be anactive visible presence in the hallways grade areas and locker roomsthroughout the day.
  • Develop lunchtime routines forSenior School students and faculty supervision schedules.
  • Support procedures and protocolsfor evacuation and containment-related emergencies and rehearse them inaccordance with legal requirements.

Oversee Morning Programming (GradeProgramming House Programming and the Teacher Advisor program):

  • Create TA class assignmentsincluding faculty assignments.
  • Ensure that students developtrusting relationships with adults and peers in the school community throughspecific Senior School programming.
  • Oversee the Grade Leads (4) andsupport their development of strong grade programming that reflects a scope andsequence for wellbeing EDIB student leadership and academic counselling.
  • Oversee the House Program and theHouse Advisor Team (10) ensuring that it maintains its community and spiritedaspects and remains a key component of life at Havergal.
  • Oversee the Teacher-Advisor (TA)program and develop its content through research-based practices that buildtrust and community.

Collaborative and engaged memberof the US Leadership Team:

  • Serve as a committee member ofboth the US Student Support Team and the US Student Life team bringingappropriate agenda items to each and passing along appropriate items to team memberswhen needed.
  • Meet regularly with the Head ofUpper School to identify student issues related to behaviour and behavioural issues and breaches of the Code of Conduct and ensure theschools progressive discipline framework is judiciously administered inconsultation with the Head of Upper School.
  • Annually contribute to the reviewand revision of the content of the Family Handbook and Veracross Portalsrelating to the Senior School.
  • Manage related Senior Schoolbudgets

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualified candidates will ideallyhave a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience plus demonstrated leadershipin curriculum student life programming or school operations.
  • Deep understanding of thedevelopmental and relational learning needs of Senior School students.
  • Familiarity with the prioritiesand contemporary approaches within a girls school.
  • Sound professional judgement andexcellent problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated leadership skillswith the ability to develop teams and be an effective team player.
  • Demonstrated initiative inprogramming and a proactive inquiry stance in dealing with students parentsand faculty.
  • Administrative and teachingexperience in the Senior School grades.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills approachable and open with the proven ability to work collaboratively withothers and a proactive approach with all constituents.
  • Excellent organizational andtechnology skills.
  • Excellent communication skills written and oral in a timely and effective manner.
  • Excellent time-management andprioritization skills with the ability to multitask and work well underpressure think strategically and operationally and work independently.
  • Skillful planning detailedproject management and resourcefulness.
  • Leadership qualifications are anasset.
