SUMMARY:

The Special Education Classroom Teacher will create and deliver engaging lessons develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and track and measure student goal progress. The teacher is responsible for the supervision of classroom staff and ongoing parent contact. The teacher is expected to collaborate with general education/special education teachers to ensure student needs are met. This teacher will work in the SEA (Social Emotional and Academic) program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and carryout developmentally appropriate motivating curriculum/programming as warranted by IEP goals/MA curriculum framework
  • Implement behavior and incentive plans and maintain data to support childrens behavior and social emotional needs.
  • Utilize specialized teaching strategies and tools to enhance learning and engagement for students with diverse learning needs
  • Guide classroom support staff in implementing activities that support student goals and other areas of need and in collecting data.
  • Provide direct individual and/or group instruction through inclusion and/or resource models
  • Conduct thorough educational evaluations developmental assessments and/or progress monitoring necessary for quarterly progress reports annual assessment and re-evaluations
  • Support the transition of students within the classroom and building by using positive behavior supports visuals and developmentally appropriate interventions.
  • Implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in childrens treatment plans IEPs and individual support plans
  • Provide supervision to para educators.
  • Collaborate with consulting psychaitrist BCBA and other providers to support students

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • MASS DESE Certified; Moderate disabilities K-12
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse throughout the school building.
  • The employee must also occasionally remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and sit stoop pivot twist run kneel crouch or crawl.
  • In the classroom the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction.
  • The employee will be trained in (CPI) Crisis Prevention Intervention to maintain student safety.
  • The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

WORK YEAR:

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated by the appropriate administrator in accordance with HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement and DESE regulations 603CMR35.00.

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer).Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
