What Youll Do

First level Supervisor providing leadership technical direction and oversight to Process Engineers responsible for the oversight of assembly/disassembly/surveillance technical requirements related to the production evaluation and dismantlement of weapons and weapons components. Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness flow down of goals expectations and priorities and integrating work within the supervised organization. Monitors department workload to ensure staff is cognizant of schedule and technical commitments. Will help development department level process engineering training and ensures employees have completed assigned trainings. Advises management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload. Provides input to management on budgets proposals cost estimates schedules and related documents required to meet customer needs.

Maintains a lead technical role in the respect to design and manufacturing assembly/disassembly/surveillance requirements of weapons components and assemblies to support all production requirements and needs. Develops and provides qualified technical resources to execute Process Engineering functions in support of Y-12 mission deliverables. Maintains a staff with knowledge and ability to serve as primary contacts to implement product definition and work scope. Direct multi-disciplined teams to resolve production/manufacturing issues related to weapons quality issues and is responsible for establishing plans tracking progress and providing updates/reports to the appropriate managers. May be responsible for determining root cause of non-conformance material and implementing production strategies to prevent reoccurrence. May be responsible for creating and maintaining Production Failure Mode Effective Analysis (PFMEA) and Process Descriptions (PD)s. May also be required to assist in efforts associated with weapons projects work with equipment installs.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science Chemistry Physics or related from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico the Washington Accord or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET AND 5 years of relevant experience.
  • In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
