Job Summary

We seek an individual inspired by our mission whosebeliefs align with our core values of integrity inquiry compassion and courageand who reflects our core competencies to join our Junior School as an Assistant Headof Junior School beginning in August 2026. This is a full-time position.

Salary range: $120000 to$160000. The total compensation for this Assistant Head positionis based on placement on the Havergal College faculty grid plus a $20000leadership stipend (included in the salary range above). Grid placementis determined by teaching qualifications and experience up to a maximum of 11years and is scheduled to increase for the academic year. Finalplacement within the range is based on the successful candidates credentialsand years of experience.

The Position:

The AssistantHead of Junior School (AH-JS) works diligently to ensure that each JuniorSchool student is known valued and cared for. They collaborate with allstakeholders to create a school environment where students have access to abroad range of opportunities within a community that prioritizes wellbeingbelonging and engagement.

The AssistantHead of the Junior School is accountable for the smooth day-to-day operationsof the Junior School including coordinating operational and communication processesdeveloping duty schedules special schedules and class coverage proceduresoverseeing afterschool care staff and programs and planning major JuniorSchool events. The role also ensures a rich and inclusive student lifeexperience by overseeing Junior School co-curricular programming includingclubs leadership development and partnerships with Havergals CommunityPartners while playing a key role in upholding the Junior School Code ofConduct and student expectations.

SpecificAccountabilities:

Support the Junior School throughactions that demonstrate:

  • Acollegial and collaborative approach to delivering the administrative functionsof the Junior School.
  • Keepingaccurate records including ensuring student information is accuratelyrecorded faculty coverage information is up to date and the regular review offaculty and student absences.
  • Modellinga friendly respectful consistent and energetic school environment thatdevelops an ethos of care and the development of nurturing and supportiverelationships.
  • Acommitment to being present and accessible to students faculty staff andfamilies.
  • Anunderstanding of whole school operational and strategic priorities and theplace of the Junior School within this.

Oversight of Day-to-Day Operations of theJunior School that prioritize safety and student learning through the:

  • Efficientarrival and dismissal procedures and practices for students.
  • Appropriateduty on-call and special schedules for faculty.
  • Developmentof procedures and protocols for evacuation and containment-related emergenciesincluding scheduling of practice drills throughout the year.
  • Clearguidelines and procedures for faculty coverage to be managed by the JuniorSchool Office.
  • Writingthe weekly faculty operational memo and leading the weekly faculty huddle.
  • Overseeingthe Before and After Care Program (Gator Care); management of staff(including Gator Care Supervisors/Upper School Student Workers) budget andensuring programming is safe engaging and fun for students ages 3 12.
  • Oversightof the planning and coordination of JS Events (e.g. Harvest FestivalChristmas Concert Grade 6 Leaving Ceremony JS Closing).

Oversight of Junior School StudentLife including:

  • Developingand implementing a Grade 4 5 & 6 Leadership Program; aligning the programwith the schools Leadership Attributes and overall scope and sequence.
  • Thecontinued development of community service programming for Junior Schoolstudents with Havergals community partners.
  • Planninga rich and diverse co-curricular program including clubs athletics and artsprogramming.
  • Workingcollaboratively with the Junior School Office Administrators to coordinate withoutside co-curricular providers and set up registration for parents.
  • MentoringJunior School Prefects from the Upper School to develop mentoringrelationships with Junior School students through activities and programsthroughout the year.
  • Addressingminor student behaviour issues in a timely and consistent manner includingcommunicating with faculty families and the Head of Junior School andensuring that processes are aligned with the Code of Conduct using aprogressive discipline approach.

Act as a Direct Report to:

  • Gator Care Supervisors (after-school care) andInternal Supply Coverage Providers.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualifiedcandidates will ideally have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience plusdemonstrated leadership in curriculum student life programming or schooloperations.
  • Deepunderstanding of the developmental and relational learning needs of students inJK - Grade 6.
  • Familiaritywith the priorities and contemporary approaches within a girls school.
  • Soundprofessional judgement flexibility and excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstratedleadership skills with the ability to develop teams and be an effective teamplayer.
  • Demonstratedinitiative in programming and a proactive inquiry stance in dealing withstudents parents and faculty.
  • Excellentinterpersonal skills approachable and open with the proven ability to workcollaboratively with others and a proactive approach with all constituents.
  • Excellentorganizational and technology skills.
  • Excellentcommunication skills written and oral in a timely and effective manner.
  • Excellenttime-management and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask andwork well under pressure think strategically and operationally and workindependently.
  • Skillfulplanning detailed project management and resourcefulness.
  • Leadershipqualifications (PQP or CAIS Leadership Qualifications are an asset).
