Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking student-focused dedicatedParaeducators to assist teachers and other professional practitionersby providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs (Autism Developmental Delays Multiple Disabilities Learning Support and Behavior Support) whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
- Assist in maintaining a safe nurturing and healthy atmosphere which may include assisting students with social skill development personal hygiene toiletry needs/toilet training
- Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
- Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
- Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
- Uses special skills (i.e. sign language transliterating advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
- Performs additional non-instructional duties including but not limited to cafeteria duty bus duty hall duty and office duty

Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional educational or related setting
Special Requirements:
- Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training as appropriate annually.
