Looking for a role where curiosity precision and science come together behind the scenes TheDepartment ofMedical Examineris seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Medical Technologist II!This full-time permanent role located in Honolulu involves forensic laboratory work essential to accurate investigations legal proceedings and public accountability.
What Youll Do- Perform toxicology tests and prepare microscope slides handle specimens from autopsies or hospitals follow test orders from pathologists and send or receive samples and results from other labs.
- Manage the laboratory including handling specimens safely preparing chemicals keeping slides and equipment organized ensuring quality control and ordering supplies.
- Manage records including keeping test reports specimen files lab manuals operational reports and reconciling invoices.
- Support laboratory operations and research including reviewing and improving procedures researching new techniques analyzing lab functions assisting pathologists and attending relevant meetings and trainings.
- Perform other related duties as needed including fit testing respirators handling lab-related calls transporting specimens responding to disaster or mass fatality incidents testifying in court and completing other tasks assigned by pathologists.
Special Work Requirements- Work schedule is Monday - Friday from7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- May utilize highly toxic poisonous and combustible chemicals as well as flammable gases.
- Exposure to biological specimens that may contain infectious diseases.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in medical technology bacteriology serology parasitology or chemistry.
Only education completed at the time of application will be credited. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.
Verification Requirement: In order to be given credit for your education clearly list your education credentials on your application. As part of the hiring process you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to satisfy this education qualification requirement. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of experience in medical technology in a medical public health or clinical laboratory.
Must be able to:
- Understand how a medical laboratory operates and what is needed to run it
- Apply principles and practices of medical technology
- Use basic chemistry and biological science concepts in lab work
- Perform standard clinical laboratory methods and techniques
- Keep up with current trends and developments in laboratory science
- Use and take care of laboratory equipment and materials properly
- Accurately test and analyze specimens using standard lab methods
- Evaluate and record lab test results clearly
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions formulas and charts
- Work safely and properly with lab equipment and tools
- Work effectively with patients hospital staff and coworkers
- Keep accurate records and prepare clear reports
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Current Medical Technologist License or equivalent in the State of Hawaii.
2. Valid Drivers License (type3/automobile) as required.
