Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classificationexists is to manage an automotive repair preventive maintenance and/orautomotive parts division or shop. Incumbents oversee maintenance repairpreventive maintenance scheduling and servicing of automobiles light andheavy trucks/industrial equipment farm implements and motorcycles as well asoversee the employees involved in parts procurement maintaining repairingand servicing City vehicles. The workresponsibilities of the position are: supervises the activities of two or morefull time employees; oversees the maintenance diagnosis and repair of vehiclesand equipment; inspects and evaluates vehicles and equipment for redesign orreplacement; manages the departments auto parts store room performs variousadministrative duties including composing memorandums creating spreadsheetsmanaging electronic files and supporting operational and reportingrequirements; manages the environmental protection and reclamation program;contributes to department objectives; diagnoses and solves complex andnon-routine repair problems and performs difficult repair work; schedules Cityvehicles/equipment for preventive maintenance; and manages parts procurementissue inventory and disposal. Supervision is received from the Director ofFleet Management.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Completion of management coursespreferred. Five (5) years of responsibleexperience in fleet management to include two (2) years of supervisoryexperience over skilled employees involved in technical maintenance repairand service of fleet vehicles or related maintenance repair field. Relatedexperience must have been obtained within the last five years.

NOTE: Qualifying education training andexperience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain avalid Alabama drivers license as needed to drive City vehicles. A CommercialDrivers License (CDL) is strongly preferred but not required.
