Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Our Capital Projects Group business unit is seeking a Project Manager for its Bowmanville Extensions team. This position will provide technical expertise and administration of planning engineering design and construction of transit infrastructure projects.

What will I be doing
  • Oversee and manage capital corridor infrastructure projects through all stages of design construction and close-out; coordinate project management responsibilities review project progress identify deficiencies and opportunities recommend solutions and escalate issues and risks as required.
  • Monitor and manage design and construction delivery to ensure scope and quality compliance proactively resolving issues and escalating issues and risks as required to minimize schedule delays and cost overruns.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with consultants contractors government partners railway operators and private companies to coordinate timelines and deliverables resolve issues and drive the successful delivery of capital projects.
  • Negotiate with Municipal and Regional stakeholders; work closely with stakeholders to align expectations address scope requests and establish clear maintenance responsibilities.
  • Lead and align cross-functional teams to embed corporate requirements into projects including technical design requirements environmental approvals municipal commitments and traffic approvals community engagement property acquisition and supporting agreements ensuring consistent and compliant delivery.
  • Lead the team by example by following best practices with respect to project management and controlling scope budget schedule and quality.
  • Analyze work activities to identify opportunities for efficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Foster a safe and healthy work environment; ensure project teams contractors and trades comply with health safety and environmental standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements.
  • Support day-to-day construction delivery by monitoring schedule progress participating in coordination meetings and working with project partners to resolve issues.
  • This role requires regular travel to the construction site (minimum twice per week) and working from a site office in Oshawa. The project team will transition to a construction office in Durham Region within the next three months (by Spring 2026).
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
  • Completion of a university degree or Diploma in Engineering Construction Architecture or related field.
  • Valid Professional Engineering (.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) (Certified Technician) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated project management experience related to the design and construction of heavy passenger rail transit systems structures and related works in an urban environment.
  • Understands theories principles and practices of structural civil and railway construction in an active railway corridor.
  • Understanding of Traffic Engineering Wet Utility design and construction and/or Property Acquisitions is considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of project management including cost control scheduling codes standards specifications corporate policies and procedures and applicable environmental legislation.
  • Problem-solving and negotiation skills to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to evaluate and address contractor performance issues and recommend plans for improvement to evaluate and address program impediments that could disrupt or jeopardize the project and/or corporate objectives.
  • A valid Ontario Class G drivers license is required to travel to various site locations meetings operational facilities etc.
