We are hiring a hands-on Computer Engineer to work in our workshop/lab to test diagnose refurbish and certify IT hardware for resale and redeployment. The role covers enterprise and SMB equipment including MacBook Laptops servers access points (APs) storage devices (HDD/SSD) switches firewalls routers and related accessories. You will ensure every unit is correctly identified tested to standard documented with evidence and prepared for resale with clear grading and quality assurance.

Requirements
Hardware Testing & Diagnostics (Servers Network Devices Laptops & MacBooks)
Perform functional testing and troubleshooting on servers switches firewalls routers access points (APs) laptops MacBooks desktops HDD/SSD RAM PSUs NICs and peripherals.
Run health checks firmware/BIOS/UEFI verification and component validation (CPU/RAM/storage/NIC/ports) across enterprise and end-user devices.
For laptops/MacBooks validate boot stability keyboard/trackpad display camera speakers/mic Wi-Fi/Bluetooth USB/Thunderbolt ports charging thermal behavior and battery health.
Identify faults isolate root causes and recommend repair/parts replacement with clear cost/viability notes for resale.
Data Storage Testing & Handling (HDD/SSD Laptop/MacBook Storage)
Test HDD/SSD using SMART/health tools; conduct bad-sector scans performance checks and reliability assessment.
Maintain strict handling procedures for storage media (ESD precautions labeling chain-of-custody).
Support data wipe and verification processes where required (evidence-based wiping and certificates).
For MacBooks (where applicable) follow approved processes for secure erase and resale readiness (without bypassing device security controls).
Laptop & MacBook Refurb/Resale Readiness
Validate device identity and condition: serial/service tag model RAM/storage specs battery cycles/health and cosmetic grade.
Confirm OS readiness:
Windows: imaging/recovery validation driver/device manager checks activation status (where applicable).
macOS: reinstall readiness and standard setup completion ensuring device is prepared for resale (subject to authorised procedures).
Test accessories and usability items: chargers adapters docking compatibility and basic peripheral checks.
Networking Equipment Validation (Switches Firewalls Routers APs)
Validate switch ports PoE functionality uplinks/SFPs VLAN capability basics and throughput checks (as applicable).
Test AP adoption RF functionality basics power methods (PoE/injector) reset/provisioning and basic connectivity stability.
Perform baseline security checks per SOP (no default credentials left active; authorised resets only).
Firmware Reset & Configuration Baselines
Apply approved firmware updates factory resets baseline configurations and password resets (authorised processes only) for servers network devices laptops and MacBooks.
Ensure equipment is returned to resale-ready state with proper configuration notes and status tags.
Grading QA & Documentation
Grade devices (A/B/C) based on cosmetic and functional status including laptops/MacBooks (screen condition keyboard wear chassis dents battery health).
Record accurate identifiers: serial numbers service tags model/part numbers MAC addresses (where applicable).
Produce workshop test reports with pass/fail results evidence photos and repair recommendations.
Tag equipment and ensure correct packaging for storage/shipping including anti-static protection and accessories pairing.
Inventory & Workshop Discipline
Maintain clean ESD-safe workspace and tools; follow workshop SOPs and safety requirements.
Update inventory records and ensure no mix-ups between units drives accessories or components.
Support periodic stock counts discrepancy resolution and RMA/returns processing.
Process Improvement
Suggest improvements for speed repeatability evidence capture and quality control.
Required Qualifications / Skills
Education: HND/BSc in Computer Engineering Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in hardware diagnostics/repair IT workshop refurb lab or field support with strong hardware exposure.
Technical Competence:
Strong understanding of PC/server hardware (RAM CPUs RAID controllers PSUs NICs).
Practical experience with network devices (switches routers firewalls APs) and basic networking concepts (IP addressing VLAN basics).
Experience testing HDD/SSD and interpreting SMART/health reports.
Ability to perform firmware updates factory resets and baseline provisioning safely.
Documentation Discipline: Accurate serial/model capture and clean reporting (no missing identifiers).
Professional Requirements: Integrity attention to detail punctuality and ability to work under quality standards.
Certifications:
CompTIA A / Network CCNA (or equivalent exposure) vendor familiarity (Cisco HPE Dell Fortinet Sophos Aruba Ubiquiti MikroTik).
Experience with RAID configuration checks and server diagnostics tools (vendor utilities).
Familiarity with ESD controls test benches and refurb/resale grading systems.
Experience in refurb processes asset tagging and chain-of-custody handling.
