Job Summary
Job Title: Mental Therapy Aide
Location: Syracuse NY
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift Type: Night Shift
Hours: 80 hours biweekly
Schedule Details:
4 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM 7:30 AM)
4 shifts of 8 hours (11:00 PM 7:30 AM)
Every other weekend required
Some holidays required
Position Summary
We are seeking experienced Mental Health Therapy Aides to support a Children and Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit within an inpatient psychiatric setting. This role involves providing both direct and indirect patient care under nursing supervision while maintaining a safe therapeutic environment for pediatric and adolescent patients.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs)
Take and accurately record vital signs and patient intake/output
Assist with patient admissions orientation to unit routines and documentation
Support physical examinations and specimen collection
Monitor patient behavior and safety; perform routine safety checks
Develop therapeutic relationships and interact with patients during structured activities
Intervene appropriately during behavioral crises and de-escalation situations
Transport patients safely within the facility
Maintain a clean safe and supportive care environment
Observe document and report patient responses and behavioral changes to nursing staff
Apply age-appropriate clinical and psychological interventions
Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for documentation
Participate in unit operations and patient care planning
Required Qualifications
Psychiatric experience required
Pediatric or adolescent experience preferred
Minimum 1 year of experience required (2 years preferred)
Prior inpatient behavioral health experience preferred
Current CPR certification required
Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after orientation
